Default transbrake and converter stall speed

I just purchased a 4500rpm vigilante but it only stalls to 4000rpm on the transbrake. Vicki at Precision said specifically it would stall to 4500rpm on the brake and flash to around 4800rpm on the bottle. She had my dyno sheets to look at as well, would could be causing my converter to only stall at 4000rpm? Please help out guys. I also had a tci ultimate street fighter 3800 that would only go to 3000 on the transbrake. I just had the tranny rebuilt, clutch plates etc. Any ideas? Something in the valve body bad possibly? It is a manual valve body.

Within 500 rpm of what they said is pretty darn good IMO. What was the air quaility compared to your dyno sheet? From good air to bad air can change what it stalls at that much.

I don't know how much you spray, but with even a 100-150 shot it is going to flash more than 300 RPM's, probably more like 800-1000 RPM's.

I'm spraying A 200 shot, but I thought that I would be able to take it up to 4500 on the transbrake. Would too much or too little line pressure possibly affect this?

Not sure on the line pressure vs stall on the brake, but I agree with most TC's getting +/-500 from the brake is pretty good and can be effected by a number of things.

From my understanding, heat, weight, torque, and apparently air quality...I'm not sure, just from what I have read. Thus I leave selecting a converter to the guys that do know, and like you, I give them every detail I can. Regardless, you can still come out a little short, but I wouldnt worry about it, now if yours was slipping like mine (24% +) then I'd be worried.

Can someone explain why air quality will affect stall? And what "air quality" means? is it DA?

Thanks,
Dan

You run your car when the air is 1500ft on a 90+ day, then run when it is 500ft everything is going to change, even your stall. You make more HP you get a little more stall, period.

Ok, I can see that. Just didn't think a 1K feet DA difference would change a stall by 500 rpm. I'll have to remember to think of that at the track next time when using the transbrake and 2-step...Thanks for the reply!

Dan
