Default How to launch my stalled car on radials

Thinking about going to the track tommorrow. I'll be running street tires and want to know how should I launch it. I know street tires aren't going to show it's true potential, but is it going to be a big joke? My stall is a 3600 2.5 STR. I've never launched a stalled car before, advice needed,

I would not bring it up past about 1500-1700 rpm on the launch, and roll into the throttle if you are running true street tires (not DOT race ones). If the car will launch decent you can acheive decent 60 foot times but it's all in how you finesse the launch. I got a 1.71 60 foot from a set of 275/60/15 std issue radials on my Nova. The key is getting the weight to shift and once it does not overpowering the tires too quickly. It takes time and practice, but I got my 60 foot to within 1 tenth of the 60 foots I get on slicks.

good luck!

I'm guessing you'd run faster without the stall....I don't have track experience with my new stall, but I know launching on the street is a joke. At the track, you'll have a little better traction, but not enough. Plus, the 2.5 STR hits very hard, so my guess would be to roll into the throttle and feather it on the edge of spinning until you really hook. Stalls really shine off the line in the 60' area, so by the time you can really go WOT, you'll probably miss the chance to see the nice gains. Like I said, I have not personally been to the track with my stall, this is simply based on watching my buddies race with their stalls. Example:

'99 SS hardtop....boltons with Yank 3600 stall (not sure on the STR), TSP 224 cam.

2.3 60', 13.4 on street tires.

1.6 60', 12.2 with Nittos

1.5 60', 11.65 with 75 shot

Try stalling it up and then try just stomping it out of the hole.. go to the track on a test and tune night where u can try it both ways and mess with your tire pressure..

This guy hit the nail on the head.
You can get a fairly good launch on street tire's, but you have to practice.
Pre-load the drivetrain by bringing the rpm's up to around 1700 to start with.
Let off the brake and then, this is going to sound crazy, ease into the pedal as fast as you can push it to the floor w/o breaking the tire's loose.
When you get to the point where the tire's just start to howl, but don't spin, that's optimum.

I ran a best of 12.81@105.76, 8.16@84.52 1/8, 1.80 60ft. Other passes were 12.84, 12.94, all at 105. I tried to flash it and spun horrible and aborted that run (2.3 60ft), best times came from leaving around 2000 rpms. My 60 fts were 1.8s on all the other runs. It was hot and humid and that usually slows my 3 tenths and 3 mph. My time corrects to 12.59@107.61, so with the weather and radials, I guess I can't complain. Now I need DRs.

I put in a fuddle 3400 two weeks ago. Took the car to the track on Sat night to test out this wonderful new mod, and heres the result:

I could not hook to save my life that night tried all kinds of strategies.
In the video it felt like I spun through 3rd gear!!!!
Villian and Danny appear to have sensible solutions. My buddy Roy wrote this on our racing forum after I talked to him about what happened:

"I would not use those Kuhmo's for the track. Maybe for the drive up to the track and that's it. The reason the car hooked on those tires is becuase the stock stall allowed you to launch at a low RPM, letting the car roll out a little before it reached its power band and did not shock the tire off the line. The new 3400 Fuddle allows you to launch the car at a higher RPM in the power band and the tires you have on the car can't handle the extra torque off the line. Get you a set of MT ET street drag radials on th car and then you will see what kind of improvement you will have in your E.T. with the new stall and drag radials. I believe you have 16 inch wheels on your car right now. Try these P255/50R16 MT ET street drag radials. If you have 17 inch wheels try the P275/40R/17."

My times on street tires (Kuhmo ecsta Z rated radials) pre stall are below.

Got the stall to cut my 60 ft time (2.01) so to stay on these tires will defeat the purpose.
I think I'm gonna follow Roys advise and get the MT's for use on my race weekends.

Wow! Happened to me on the street once when I hit second lol. I also got a Yank 3000 and took it to the track with Kumhos and it was a joke. Had to dang near just let it roll off the line then get into it.

Do youself a favor, get some drag radials or slicks. I had a 4600 converter in mine and trying to launch it on street tires was a joke. You have spent how much money on the stall and other mods, but you can't buy a set of drag radials for less than $300? Trust me, it is one of the best mods you can do.
