Question Help On Fuel Pump Problem

I Have A 1998 Ta 5.7 And When It Sets For A While It Don,t Start Without Turning The Key Back And Fourth 4 Or 5 Times Then It Starts And Runs Fine, As Long As You Don,t Shut It Off. Sometimes It Starts Right Away And Then Sometimes It Don,t . Fuel Pump Runs Every Time And Sounds Ok. What Could It Be ? Help------ I Put A New Fuel Filter On 2 Weeks Ago That,s Not It.

There is a port on the end of the driverside fuel rail. You need to use a mechanical fuel pressure gauge and check your fuel pressure there. This will tell you if the pump is weak. The pressure, key on engine off, should be at least 50 psi. Running it should be between 55 psi and 60 psi.

You can purchase these guages at Autozone or any local parts store. They are around $50. You could have a local shop check it for you but it may cost as much or more than the gauge itself.

Speed inc. also sells the fuel pressure guage with adapters and such to make it work. This is a strange problem though.
