Default Why you shouldn't run the stock rockers...

We decided to retune our 00 automatic 346/ET 11 degree car this morning. We recently added LG pro long tubes and the car felt like it needed some more fuel and it sure did. The morning started fine, idle tuning went very very easy with the RTT tuning, took about 10 minutes to get the fuel dialed in @ idle. Inital driving impressions were correct, we had to add 3-7% fuel almost everywhere in part throttle, WOT was pretty close. The cruise was going great, did a pull to 6500 2nd and 3rd and the engine started tapping. The tapping was remenicent of 2 years ago when I floated the valves. Babied the car back to the house and used a makeshift stethoscope and found the noise was on the passenger side. Pulled the valve cover and found this....

Yikes! Are you running a big cam with super-strong springs?

Yeah, that' sucks. Let me know what setup you got, cause i jsut installed hardened pushrods and had no intentions on spending another four hundred or so for rockers, but if you're not running a huge cam, then i am scared not to get rockers. Also, stronger springs than 918's?

That is unusual to break like that. Bearing spill is the regular culprit.

Yeah, or a good quality hardened pushrod (thickwall) that are too long, and a nicely tightened rocker would do that...

That is weird. At least you were smart about it and got it home and found the problem quickly.

That really sucks man. Even though that is a good sized cam, I am still confused as to why it snapped? Never really seen that before.

Currently running stock rockers in my 402.
Spins to 6700.
Cam is a 248/254 629/622 113.

No problems. No noise, no bearings. They have 31K on them.
I will most likely have them re-built soon though.

We run stock rockers on the World Challenge car. 7400 every shift, 4000+ race miles, no issues.

Did I mention, there were a few 9200 and 9400 miss shifts in there as well? Just something that happens with race cars.
