Default Ignition Switch

Hey guys, I will probably get more attention in this forum. How hard is it to replace on our cars. I was told that even if I do get one from a parts store I would have to go to the dealer and have the key programmed in order for it to work with my ECU. I just feel like paying an arm and a leg for the work if I can do it on my own. Any input appreciated.

I had mine go out about 3 months ago had it towed to the dealer $620 good as new. If you can do it yourself go for it. I wasn't sure what the problem and me and computers in cars don't get along well.

Was it only the ignition switch that they changed out? What was done?
