Default How noisy is a YSi compared to a T-trim?

My dry sleeve motor is toast. I knew the sleeves were leaking coolant into the oil and I guess it finally took its toll. I lost oil pressure at idle after a run at the track last weekend. W2W will be building my new motor (hopefully an L92 block--love cubes). While it's out I guess I'm gonna send out my T-trim bracket to RMCR so it can be modified for the YSi, that is as long as the YSi is not obnoxious. I was up at the Milan race a couple weekends ago and heard a Livernois Mustang with an ATI F1-C blower. It was very intimidating sounding but probably a little too much noise for my liking. So I was wondering if you guys that have heard YSi's could give me some insight. When I ordered the T-trim I requested that it be made as quiet as possible. I was told they could do something with bearing clearances to make it more on the quiet side. I don't know if that's bullshit or not but the T is really quite civil. Maybe they could make a semi-quiet YSi too. My goals now are a solid 10 second car in pure steet trim with a consistent 130+ trap. If Mickey Thompson ever comes out with a 315/35/17 drag radial I think Ill be there.

P.S., Mark (BLWNTA), better come up with something because I would think your 10.89 will fall after this.

My YSi is a bit noisy, strange rattly sort of sound. But inside the car its of no big concern. Doesnt bother me at all.
You wouldnt notice it during normal driving.

In fact, its probably worst at idle for some reason.

That's good to hear. I love your 145 trap. I'd be happy with 135. Of course I have a real street car with A.C. so who knows.

I never had the t-trim but i had the ysi on my SS b4 the turbo and i gotta say i loved the blower whine(wasnt obnoxious at all) and it made great power on my 348ci motor. 641rwhp@10psi on pump and 713rwhp@13psi on unleaded 106 and 725rwhp without the air filter all while running the stock pcm with HP Tuners. I think u'll love it!!!!

My car doesnt have AC, we dont really get the weather for it often....

My last trip to the strip was a 750 mile round trip.... My car is 100% a road/street car.

It should go even better now Ive dumped the Nitto's

I was trapping 134 with my 346 setup and YSi with stg 1 853 castings and less than ideal 230/236 on 112 cam.

Stevie--wasn't taking a shot at you. There was another rather heated thread where guys were taking sides on the A.C. or no A.C. for a street car.

Wicked-- again, it's good to hear the YSi is the way to go. I know you didn't have yours on too long before going turbo. I thought about a turbo but not for this car, I am a partner with a race car turbo so I'll experience both.

Jonathan--Yea, I knew I had an issue with this engine (even at the previous Kilcare event), I just was doing 1000 mile oil changes hoping to make it last through the summer. It sounds like you are getting close on yours, it's really gonna scream once you've got it dialed in. I may come to watch at the next event. I can't believe I've never heard a YSi and I go to the track a lot. I guess I'll have to start looking at the Mustangs, maybe I'll find one there

Check over on the Corvette Forum. A&A did a couple of YSi cars with good results. Probably have to do a little searching, as they were mostly using smaller blowers, with very impressive results also.

I didn't think my YSi setup was overly loud. Sure you maxed out that T-Trim? They are good for 825hp.

Can anyone compare a YSi to a D1SC? Wondering how they comapre in sound, i already have a D1 but im curious. Also how does the D1 stack up to the YSi in possible power production? Which one comes out on top?

I thought the YSi is a V-7 that has much quieter helical cut gears, whereas the T-trim is a V-1 with straight cut noisy gears. Maybe I'm wrong though.

BTW, I made 550 rwhp with a T-trim through an auto with a loose converter. At full weight (with A/C), I ran 10.40 at 132.6 mph. Others have been over 140 mph with a T-trim at full weight (how is beyond me, though). Now, I'm trapping 143 mph with a single T-76 and, you guessed it, A/C.

Ordered a 12 bolt two days ago, that's a start . Hellllloooo 60 foots.

There's no doubt that with a W2W SB and a YSi you will be deep into the 10's. Don't make me drop a TH400 in mine for a weekend!

My t-trim was loud as hell; I could hear the thing for like 15 minutes after I got out of the car because it was embedded in my brain. I've heard the YSi's are quieter, and from the vids I've seen of them, I think so. That being said, I loved how loud the t-trim was!

I'm slightly overspinning the T with a 2.75 pulley. I will probably upgrade the 3" OBX to at least the 4" version because I did loose 3 lbs. boost after switching from the aftercooler to the front mount. I was seeing 11 lbs.

I'll bet they stay close. Now if you drop a TH400 in I might have to add some spray to the mix. How's the race car ever gonna get done if we keep dickin' we these slow street cars?

The D1SC flows 1400 cfm, the YSi flows 1600.

Why on earth did you switch from a water/air to an air/air intercooler? I made 680 rwhp through the plain jain Vortech Aftercooler with a TH350/loose converter.

The air/air cools better than the aftercooler system but I did loose boost. Some due to lower temp. + some due to the longer tubing and or intercooler restriction . I would hit 170+ at the track with the aftercooler (icing the water), the highest I have seen since is the 140's (usually 120-130). That said I wouldn't mind having my boost back and I still have the aftercooler. I was thinking of maybe experimenting by using the 5 gal. ice chest that will go in the race car and a high flow water pump and routing that through the aftercooler to see if I can substantially cut the temps. down + get boost back. If it works well I may go back with a revised aftercooler system that incorporates a large heat exchanger with fan (probably the TTi race kit one). I would also go with a SD tune to get the MAF out. In an effort to get my boost back after the FMIC install I moved the MAF to the pressure side and got 2 lbs. back.

I actually had the Mustang out at Milan that day... the F-1 is very loud, but I like it... It always seems to draw a crowd. We have a T-Trim on our Z28 Vert and it's much quieter (but not quiet at all) than the F-1.
