Does anybody has the Sumitomo HTR Z (Ultra High Performance Summer) on his car? I was checking the prices for a 315/35 R17 and they are really cheap ($107 compared to $174 for Nitto 555R). I also checked some of the reviews and the tire seems to perform ok on wet/dry roads. I am only going to get the rear tires. I know that Nittos are good (I have a set of Nittos already), but if I get Sumitomo tires, I can save at least $100 dollars (including shipping vs no shipping cost for Nittos). I just need to know if I need to stay away from these tires and get the Nittos 555R.

I've run a set of them and didn't think they were bad at all for the money. Summer traction is decent but they are for sure not cold weather tires.

My buddy has them on his Cobra (468 RWHP, 499RWTQ) He says they are OK. He hasnt had them in the cold yet though. All Ive heard is great....for the money

Alot of people here have them. Of course they won't grip as well as the more expensive tires, but they're worth the price if you're willing to sacrifice.

We had them in 315/35ZR17 and they wear really well, but forget trying to launch with them. Ours look real good (in the bed of the pick-up truck) for as many times as they went up in white smoke!

Right now we have Nitto NT555R's in 315, and the car launches and hooks much much better!

I just got some for the front of the car. I wouldnt run them in back, but if you have a car you never drive and dont want to spend a fortune for tires to have your car sit on, they'll work.

I have them all the way around, and to me they aren't the best handling tire on earth, but i'm very pleased with the straight line grip.... And the treadwear seems to be very good too... Mine are on stock 16x8's 245/50/16 ... much better in try and wet than any other tire i've had on either of my two T/A's

All right, I need to decide now. I am getting my wheels in 1 1/2 weeks, but I am still trying to decide between Nittos and Sumitomos, what should I do? I don't drive the car a lot, it is pretty much a garage queen. The only thing that I am afraid of is a tire blowing up or having a hard time balancing the tires, what if these tires are so cheap but they blow up?. I am a technician and I'll mount/balance the tires myself, and I know for a fact that some tires are a pain in the butt to get balanced (specially cheap tires). Like I said, I know for sure that Nittos are good, but if these tires are ok, I'll buy them and save me $100
