Default Bad idle/ know I want a cam&head package :)

To start, I feel like I probably have the only 98 LS1 in the word without LT, Cam, & Heads. I have 48K on car and after porting my TB I had to reset the computer a few times to get the idle back to normal. Feeling the shake and stumble of a sick idle really got me thinking I need a heads and cam combo soon! This is how one simple free mod turns into a pile of money!
Also, I am a straight line racer only. No auto-crossing will ever be in my future. (just not my thing)

Here are my options as I see them. Please help me with the logic.

1. Port & Polish my stock heads.
+ local shop said he could make them flow 310cfm for $800.
- cost almost as much money as new patriate LS6 P&P heads.
2. Purchase used LS6 heads
- I dont know the abuse they took and I will still have to have them worked over.
3. Buy new LS6 P&P heads from many diff. venders.

1. Why are AFR heads over 2K?
2. Why are GM production 65cc heads only $998.00?
3. Patriate heads are $1,300 for stage 2 or 3 LS6 heads. (no core)
4. MTI heads are out of this world expensive....+ core

If my goal is to make 450hp at the wheels, do I need dual springs?

CAM
1. LS1 hot cam seems pretty weak, it only has .5 lift. I know I want this thing to rumble. I only drive 5miles to work and I plan on staying there for 20yrs.
2. MTI X1 cam is a popular cam and I only here good things.
3. TSP has a good cam
4. etc......

Please answer my question on the heads. do you get what you pay for like everthing else, or is one pp LS6 as good as another.
My end goal is to have a low 11sec car that I can get into the 10's with dry 75 shot or less.
Thanks in advance.

480rwhp+ Magic Stick 4 Camshaft, PRC Stage 2.5 LS6 & Fast 90 Resullts!! on dyno thread....I think I got my answer. Please still explain to me the diff. in heads! I am sure I am missing something important. Like why some cost so much more than others that seem to be the same darn thing?

that is a great combo, the prcs are great heads for the money. you will probably need to fly cut your pistons for that exact combo but it will be worth it.happy horsepower hunting.

Don't forget 4.10's and a 9" or the suspension mods needed.

yeah definitely...you'll have a supra on your hands if you leave the stock 10 bolt, driveshaft, and clutch in that car. bear in mind that it takes more than engine parts to go fast.
