Default heads and cam combo

Guys, I decided to put heads and cam on my C5. I've done numerous searches and found alot of great info on combos. Here's what I want out of the car:
I want to keep the stock gears (3.15) so the car would be very comfortable on long trips.
I want a package that's gonna work with the converter which is 4000 stall 2.4 STR.
I'm looking for a cam that's gonna work with the gears and converter. And of course the best heads for the dollar. I plan on installing a 90/90 along with the combo. AFR's are out of the question. Dart 205's, TSP's stage 2.5, or ??
Come on guys lets here some suggestions. I'm not looking for a 10 second car, just looking for a well thought out and proven combo. Thannks!

Definately look into the dyno section for results on all the heads your considering. I think you'll find the PRC street ls6 head for 999.99 is going to be pretty hard to beat! Don't take my word for it, checkout the dyno results!!

I would think pretty much any head is going to work, but not any cam. So what cam would work best with 3.15's?

Too bad AFRs are out of the question. With AFR 205s Heads milled to 62cc and Futral F13 230/232 114+4, you'd keeping the overlap in check and the velocity up to produce very good street manners, good gas mileage, and good power that would produce a very well matched package for the 4000 stall.

Of course, the AFR 205s would be the same price as budget heads + FAST 90/90 and would give you similar performance. Just install the 90/90 later for another 20-25HP.

But, if you want some good budget heads, then the PRC LS6s will do nicely, but I'd opt for the PRC valve kit and CNC Runners. That pushes them up to $1249. Then, I'd look at a cam in the 230 duration neighborhood... F13 or a TSP Torquer 2 (232/234 112). The high lift cams might only make another 5-10HP at the same duration, but will increase spring wear.

Look to see what TSP, Thunder Racing, Futral, LG, MTI, LPE, TTP, Speed Inc, and other sponsors have.

Think again about budjet heads....

Why spend the big bucks on the FAST 90/90 and not spend money on the heads? Sounds *** backwards too me....

Spend the money on good heads... Get some ETP heads!

I made 513 rwhp with this setup on a LS2:

* HELLION Cam (243*-247*-112*-.629"-.629" )
* ETP 225's
* FAST 90
* Kooks LT's
* Kooks Custom Turn-Downs Muflers
* SLP UD Pulley
* K&N CAI
* P/P TB
* SLP Thermostat 160º
* 8.5mm MSD Wires
* NGK TR6 Plugs
* DIY Catch Can

Talk to ed curtis at fti

You can always get a nice intake and tb whe you got the money... they take all of 30 mins to swap...

Anything less than 220 probably.

Well, you have to just match a cam to a stall not the gears like you do in an M6. So basically any cam would work within reason. 220-23X's

[QUOTE]Why spend the big bucks on the FAST 90/90 and not spend money on the heads? Sounds *** backwards too me....

Viewsonic, I've read on this board where it was better to run a good intake and ok heads than to run bad *** heads and an LS6 intake. Just trying to learn this LS1 stuff. All I knew until I bought the Vette was Turbo Buicks.

Torquer 2 and F13, it's gonna be either one. I'm not dead set on a 90/90, especially if it's good for 25 hp over the LS6 intake. That kind of money for 25 hp is something I can do down the road.
Jake that sounds like a well thought out plan on the AFR's, but I can't justify that kind of money for a set of heads. I had that in my heads on my GN and swore I'd never pay that for heads again.
I'm leaning towards the stage 2.5 heads from TSP or the Dart 205's. Zach @ TSP said the stage 2.5's are better than an as cast Dart. TSP qouted me $2089 for everything including gaskets. Just looking to get around 420hp. Thanks guys for the help!

Don't rule out the PRC street ls6 heads either! They are a steal @ 999.99 & have been dyno tested to provide results right up there with ANY cylinder head @ ANY price!

All I am saying is why not get the good heads now and the intake later?

It only takes 30 mins to swap an intake.
