Heat from headers

Heat from headers Saw a van burning to the ground on the side of the road today. Made me wonder how much more heat are my new headers (QTP) transferring to the surrounding engine bay than my old stock manifolds? Should I cover anything in heat wrap or am I being paranoid?

I can tell ya that I put the pacesetters on this weekend w/ the ceramic coating and I couldn't believe how much cooler the engine compartment was! Just keep anything that could burn away from the headers...

im curious as well...my pacesetters (coated)get super hot within 2-3 minutes after i start the car. I've also noticed that my car gets to operating temp. in half the time it used to (It might be the texas heat 
). I find my self checking the temp. gauge very often when i drive it

my temp gage is broke...i have mac mids NOT ceramic coated. They had the HTS (or whatever) coating that is flaking off. I have never had any problems with the heat from the headers. They have been on the car for over 20,000 miles in less than 1 year with no probs.

Cars with LTs will always run cooler than those with stock manifolds, the increased surface area of the LTs combined with better exhaust scavenging, and a better heat conducting material PLUS a ceramic coating equals a much cooler engine bay then you've ever had with stock manifolds.

im really starting to worry about this now...i went to the gym which is like 2 miles away, came home parked the car,1 hr later went backoutside to check on the car after reading the thread and the whole engine compartment is still hot including the slp lid.. it seems like every one else is running cooler.
any have any input???

seriously you are okay. in this weather i only work on my car in the morning becuase it never cools down enough for me to start wrenching under the hood. lol

Header wrap is the worst thing to do. It will retain moisture and can cause cracks. If you want the best under hood temps, stainless header with the Jet Hot 2000 coating. Its list tar and hold the heat in very well.

LOL before I put my pacesetters in I swear that my engine compartment when opened, in the winter... was blazing hot... i swear all the parts inside were glowing orange.

I was driving around at the beach one night with my LT1 and parked it and opened the hood in the garage with the lights off, and the stock manifolds were glowing pretty good...first time I've ever seen manifolds glow! I wasn't driving hard or anything...

Stainless uncoated/unwrapped is just fine. They get hot (what won't with exhaust gasses) but don't cause anything to worry about. 110* weather here in PHX and I'm still good.

Check out the engine dyno video on the lingenfelter site. The 427 TT on the egine dyno, the turbo manifolds glow bright red hot. Its kinda cool. I wouldnt worry but you engine being to hot. I mean you do live in Texas. I used to be the same way when I was in So Cal. It was all in my head. HEHE
