Default Heads off. Noticed something.

Upon removing the passenger side head I found that the dowels were all way inside the head.

I don't see how this could happen unless the heads had been installed incorrectly, and I'm pretty sure this motor had never been apart.

Has anyone taken an LSx apart and found the dowels all the way into the heads, or all the way into the block?

I bumped one of mine in when I put my new heads on.
Is it possible you tapped it on accident while taking the stockers off?

Im pretty sure the dowels should be longer than either hole is deep. That means it should always stick out atleast a little. When removing heads, sometime the dowel will stick in the block, sometimes in the head, but never have i see one all the way in one or the other.

ummm yeah, that's quite possible, and prolly exactly what happened. I was so excited removing parts that I didn't take note of where they were until later on. They could have been pushed in when I placed the head on the ground.

The dowels on the drivers side stayed in the block FWIW.

Guits, they are indeed flush with the heads gasket surface.

I haven't tried to remove them but I think I'll roll by the Stealership and order a few new ones.

Thats very strange... Are the dowels about a half inch long? I didnt think the hole in the head for the dowel was any deeper than 3/8 maybe... and the hole in the block was around 5/16 or so, If I recall.

I remember glancing at it to make sure i wouldnt bottom out when I milled the heads down...

This is all news to me... Im going to go home and take a look after work. I have a couple pairs of 241's sitting on a shelf. I also have a couple of old dowels from my motor. Maybe Im remembering things a little differently than they really are. Maybe im picturing a different motor.

These dowels must be made of precious metal. They go for $6.50 each! lol fawking Stealership!

The good news is, the Caddy dealer a few miles away has them in stock.
