Default Killed a STi at a stoplight

I was driving down Central in Chino/Montclair when I saw a STi in front of me then the car disappeared into traffic. When traffic got lighter I caught up to the STi I tried to secure a spot next to the STi at the red light but a ****** RSX wouldnt let me over, needless to say the doors were blown off the RSX. I gave up on catching a light with the STi because it appeared to be getting over to the right lane to make a right turn but he stayed at the light and I caught up. I turned my music down, and his was still bumping so I assumed he didnt want to race. I gave it about half throttle then punched it when I looked to my right the STi was still there at my passenger door, but I was inching on him until about 85 when a we had to let off due to traffic. I wished I could record my next run with an STi because my co-workers tell me I'm full of **** whenever I tell them I can pace one in the 1/4 and kill one from a roll.

Good to see some more IE representation. Good kills. I've seen a couple STi's at the Ontario street races but they wouldn't line up with me, dunno if it's cause they thought I'd be too easy or they didn't want to get beat.

No doubt you can run with one from a roll, don't know about through the quarter.

STIs need an aftermarket downpipe to run with a stock LS1 (f-body) from higher speed roll, if not edge it out. They will jump between ~40-80 whp from the part depending on if its an off the shelf map or custom tune.

Was it a dead stop? I had a little trouble following. My guess is he didn't really launch it hard. It kills me when people don't even take advantage of their AWD. Nice kill.

Good kill!

Watch out for your coworker though. If you are stock, and he does drive well, the car will kill you on the street from a stop. Crappy street pavement does not hurt the '60 footer for an STi which means 1.7~ on the street as opposed to like a 2.3~ for an F-body on the street. From a roll, take it above 100 and you'll beat him by at least a car or two.

They have terrible power approaching the red line. To get maximum power, you have to shift early, say 6500 in 2nd gear.

It is extremely abusive to the car...

Yeah yeah. You should know that I know this I just wouldn't buy a car with AWD if I wasn't going to use that advantage is all.

AWD cars have ugly drivetrain power loss. Most of them pull like a bag of ******** up top, put it in the wrong gear and you're toast. Check out the top gear video of the MR evo getting pulled on by a 120hp car, all because of the wrong gear and it's inability to build boost. AWD cars are almost almost stupid proof.

That car will pull pretty "well" up top.

AWD also has nothing to do with it. I am guesing you have never owned a car that is turbocharged ?

Not even in the ballpark. The only reason they run the 1/4 mile so quick is because of the AWD launch, they really aren't that powerful.

Its all well and good that they can run low 13's stock, but when you're trapping at 101MPH, thata just ridiculous

And here comes Mr Knowitall to defend the riceburners. And what do you know, he owns an STI

You're example of the Bugatti is pointless and irrelevent. That car has over 1,000HP, obviously AWD isn't going to hinder it by any measurable amount. When you're talking about 275-300HP though, and you have almost 25% drivetrain loss due to AWD, thats a different story.

I've seen that video, it was hilarious. Talk about turbo lag. Of course, when you're making over 300HP on a 2.0L engine, theres going to be turbo lag. Anyone who tells you that their Evo or STi doesn't have any lag is a straight up moron.

How so? The car is AWD and will still pull "strong" on top-end. The drive train has nothing to do with where the car makes its power. Just because you don't like it?

No car with 1000 HP is going to be hindered. The car makes incredible power, that is why it is fast. It is perfectly valid and proves with 100% certainty that AWD cars pull up top.

Yes, the car has 25%~ drive train loss, but that has *nothing* to do with my car's poor top-end. It is the turbocharger in my car and the EVO's. They are tiny and can't make power high up.

That bugatti is beautiful. STis are powerful cars. 300hp/300tq. It's not as responsive as an N/A car, sure, but it does make the power.

With your times, I'm not surprised. For a stock ls1 though, they should get the jump.

You just need to find ones that can launch
