Default open exhaust on an LS1

0n an 01' C5, with full bolt-ons heads and a 236/242 cam and a lot of nitrous we want to run full length headers no cats, with an X pipe and no mufflers with resinated tips. This will cut the back pressure down to nothing, will we be fine, or will I end up bending valves in these $3000.00 heads? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I have done that many times with no problems. Your engine will love it and so will your ears.

I have been running open headers for a while. You should have no problem with running that set-up. The first time i ran it open headers it was fine for about a couple hours but then the O2 sensors started to act up and it ran like ****. So i made some 12" extensions out of piping at work and now it runs fine. Just extremely loud, and since your car will be cammed it will loud and sound like a beast at idle.

If this is a car that you plan to drive on the street normally the drone will probably kill you eventually.

You guys rock. Thanks for the feedback. I have turned the rear O2's off so they should be fine.

no, he is talking about the o2's that are in the header collectors that start to act up and you most definately CANNOT turn those front o2s off haha.

he means the front O2's with the pulse nature of exhaust, fresh air can get drawn into the header enought to hit the forward O2 sensor. In your case you will be fine though as its not just open headers...

You might not be able to turn the front O2 sensors off, but you can ignore them and run in permanent open loop, quite a few guys do that.

Guys, he won't be running open headers, he is saying no muffs. Headers> X pipe> exit at back.
Yes you can run that system if you can stand it.
You could put two magnaflow round tubes after the X to quiet it down a little with little or no effect on the flow.

pretty sure that you would still want some at least bullet race mufflers in there.

just tune out your 02s, my car has no 02s, no polution control and no MAF
