Clutch chatter/headers hitting k-member
So it turns out that all of the racket comming from my new header install and pos ram clutch is actually my headers bashing into the k-member! Well, this is causing some pretty bad scars already on my headers and i've only had them a week...
are there any quick solutions? I have absolutely no time within the next month or two to put motor mounts on (do i have to take the headers off to put the motor mounts on?)... and this is my daily driver which I drive through 500 red lights a day with the headers hitting the k-memeber 60% of the launches...
There seemed to be plenty of clearance when I put the headers on (an inch or more in the place where they are actually hitting)...
I guess this is going to be a costly mistake on my part! It might force me to put the stock crap back on and be out about a grand and sink my moral into the realm of me never touching my car again ...so any input would be nice...

What kind of headers are they, and where on the K are they hitting? I'd suggest getting out a grinder and notching the K whereever they are hitting as part of the solution... but if there's an inch or so like you are saying, it sounds like your motor mounts are shot. Would have been a good time to put a set in while you were doing the headers.. with the exhaust off teh car, the mounts are pretty easy to get to.

They are pacesetter headers. They are mainly hitting on the passenger's side right near the collector...Yeah, I thought I had done my research and had all my ducks in a row, but obviously not...should have done the motor mounts .
I honestly thought they would be alright with only 50k on my car (my lt1 had 180k on it with aftermarket clutch and the stock mounts were fine! I should have never sold that car)

I've seen motor mounts go to hell in 20K, and I've seen them stay together for 100+K, luck of the draw I guess.
If it's hitting the floorboard, there's no cutting that out of the way, maybe a hammer and a 2x4 will make some room.
I'd get yoruself a set of motor mounts.. and plan a weekend to get them in there. Removing the headers (as much as you probably don't want to do that at this point) will make the job pretty easy. Just support teh motor with a good jack, and a 2x4 across underneath it.

I really hope I can get to those things with the headers in...Things are crazy and I have no time between now and about september to get to the things...This really sucks too, it's now doing it every time I engage the clutch from a stop, regardless of what I do...
Thanks for the help!
I know to get polyeurethane mounts, but are there any reputable brands that I may be better off buying?
I really appreciate the help...I guess lesson learned on my end (hopefully it won't be a $500+ lesson!)

Is it hitting the heat shield? If PACESETTERS are hitting, you've got something fucked up. I bet your motor mounts are toast (not that they were very good to begin with). Don't get discouraged, if you saw the **** load of problems I'm having right now, you'd be like "wow I'm in good shape".

No, They're not hitting the heat shield...if I look under the passenger's side, I can see the scars on the headers on the side facing the passenger's side of the car where the headers are hitting the k-member. The cats are rattling against the heat shield, though. I guess I'll get the bump stop from Thunder Racing.
I'm getting discouraged because everytime I touch this car something goes wrong. Plus, this is the car I drive to work and to meetings every day, and every time I get off the line I'm thinking "that loud banging is the sound of my $400 headers hitting the k-member and there's nothing I can do about it because I have no time to fix it and no down time to get someone else to fix it (even it I would allow them) until about mid september". It sucks to hear that every time i let out of the clutch.
I there a certain type of motor mount I need for a light bolt-on? I'd like to go ahead and order the parts in case i do get a chance to do it.

prothane poly ones, they'll last a long *** time, and no you don't need a matching tranny mount... but I'd at lesat replace it with a new stocker while you're at it.. not that big a deal. some people say the poly tranny mounts vibrate too much.. alot of that is personal preferance though I think.

You can also just replace the driver's side motor mount if you're pressed for time since it's the easiest to get to, it'll still hold the motor plenty steady. I did mine this way, didn't do the passenger side for 6 months after that. Also did mine with the headers still on the car.
