Default The 200mph man.........

At the behest of one of your forum members. It has been requested that I copy/paste this in the Tejas section. For those that dont know what Open Road Racing is, the best way to describe it is going flat out on a public highway thats only 21ft wide and out in the middle of the high nevada desert. These results are from the Bonnoville 100 ORR that was held in Wendover NV last weekend. Here are a couple pics of the car from Mays event (Nevada Open Road Challenge)

Car is the chassis of an 86 vette. Body is all fiberglass and lexan. Big roll cage, fire system, fuel cell, speedpro injection, koni suspension, all aluminum bow tie block 410ci, splayed valve heads, hogans intake, speed pro injection, big MSD box, etc etc etc etc. Its running about 700hp.

201.6 on the southbound leg
203.5 on the northbound leg

We had a high on the gps of 206mph right after the speed trap.

So now I am an official member of the 200mph club.

We ended up being 3rd in our class due to a few "issues" (ie: making the return run with NO CLUTCH and the nice pit the NDOT dug for us in the middle of the road) we had and coming in pretty late. But we did what we set out to do. Its a little hard to believe that I have now managed to check off one of those "life goals" that I thought I would never actually do.

This run is ALOT more technical than the silver state or the PE130. There is a section that makes the narrows at silver state look like a super speedway. As a navigator its one of those courses that a mistake in direction can cost you dearly. And there are ALOT more things much closer to the road so when youre at 200mph you KNOW youre at 200mph. We sepnt alot of time in the 185-195mph range but the 2 hickups we had cost us pretty bad. I do have incar video from the run but once again have no way to convert it to dvd. But I will work on it.

When we were making the return run and I was calling out speed through the trap I told Jeff that we had to keep it as close to 199mph as possible for as long as possible to make up some of our lost time. But right after the speed trap he dropped it to 174mph. I was coming unglued over in the meat seat and he said over the intercom very nicely "Boyce, I did what I came to do and all we have to do now is finish". We did pick up the pace but Jeff hit the nail on the head. We got 201 south and 203 north and that gets us in a pretty elite group of people. But if we didnt finish it was all for not. So we chose not to really stress the car and make the rest of it a milk run. But the last 13 miles, we nailed the throttle and held it as close to 198mph as possible. But the big fun is the last 7 miles. you crest a hill and its 4 miles at a 7% downgrade then a WFO right hand sweeper to the finish line. And the feeling of cresting that hill at almost 200mph and seeing the finish WAY down off in the distance is like nothing you can put into words. And that hill is just SCREAMING for you to hold it on the wood. There is no doubt in my mind that if we didnt have a 200mph tech speed we could have easily pushed into 215mph territory. But we held it at 198mph all the way down the hill and blasted through the finish line at just a hair shy of 200mph.

I had a great time at the event and am still coming down off the adrenaline from the run. I only got 1 picture during the whole event but will be getting a CD from the photographer to put up later for everyone.

I am still in a bit of shock that we covered the "dolley Vardon" 8 mile straight in less than 2 minutes and 15 seconds. That car is SICK.

Here are a couple pictures from the race in Wendover. The car was in all primer because the painter is a lazy piece of **** that didnt do what he was supposed to. Pics are from the turn around point. the B100 is a 50 mile out and 50 mile back run.

Thanks for posting that here in the Texas Section Boyce. Sounds like fun at these events, everytime you go and call me up afterwards you are so pumped up from having a blast.

Keep us Texas folk updated with any more races you plan on attending, and as always take some pics/vids for us please.

Peace,
Craig.

Now that is just sick, awesome post, what color with that car get painted when its all said and done? I remember watching a "ride along" video of an LT1 Camaro preped for that type of racing, very sweet indeed.

I dont have anything else on that car. It did run in the 160mph average speed class at that event though. The picture makes it look ALOT better looking than it really is. It looks like it was just thrown together.

The paint will be similar to the scheme in the first pictures except it will have a stars & stripes graphic down the side.
