Ok, I do a lot of traveling, usually down south to the stuart area. I have this bad little habit of trying to make good time.
My question is when your going on long trips, what RPM or MPH should you keep it under to keep from harming your engine/transmission?
I know the faster you go the worse your gas mileage is going to get, but what Im worried about is damaging my tranny again, or hurting the engine.

I imagine a tranny cooler and a guage would help a lot, but I don't have those yet, and for the time being Id like to be safe about it.

Its about 250mi, I once averaged about 100mph going down when I had to hurry to meet a friend, then my tranny went out on me not to long after that. I think I may have overheated it?

i know 3000 rpms is generally bad to hold your motor/tranny at. my friend's brother used to have an old chevy big block truck with 4.56's in it that he used to tow cars back to his shop. we took the parkway and his rpm's were over 3000. you could literally watch the gas needle move. he drained the whole tank in a little over 100 miles.

things also ran hot. i'd say 2500rpm's and under...if it were ME. another reason i love my 2.73's. 75mph ~ 2000rpms :)

I live in Germany and I travel down to K-town, about 40-50 miles from me. If there is no traffic then I can make it in about 25 minutes easy. I drive it between 90-130mph. I know it is not 250 miles, but. As long as you have good synthetic oil, and a maintenance program going for you, then your engine and tranny should be good. My rear end is tore up. I maxed my speedo and my RPM's went up another 100-150.

Well shoot, 2500rpms is only 86mph for me, thats what I usually set the cruise at.
But if I get a blocker doing 95 sometimes I like to follow....
The turnpike has a few places where it just opens up, and its really hard not to drive fast.I guess its not so much my engine im worried about more the transmission, and anything else that might get damaged.
