It's an LSx engine (x-denotes 1,2,6,7, or the Iron block LQ series), because most all of the parts can be interchanged without a problem and perform about the same. Many guys with LS1s run the 5.3L heads for added compression (and when ported, seem to do a little better than the stock 5.7L LS1 heads). The intakes are different and so are the cams, but the truck's parts are designed for low end RPM grunt.

he's got the LM7 (iron block and aluminum heads) or LM4 (aluminum block and aluminum heads). Its part of the GenIII family as most parts are interchangible.
