Chevy trucks...LS1 BASED motors or LS1??

Chevy trucks...LS1 BASED motors or LS1?? My friend seems to think his truck is a LS1 5.3 litre. I told him its a LS based, doesnt have ls1 heads, intake...ect. So whos right?

It's an LSx engine (x-denotes 1,2,6,7, or the Iron block LQ series), because most all of the parts can be interchanged without a problem and perform about the same. Many guys with LS1s run the 5.3L heads for added compression (and when ported, seem to do a little better than the stock 5.7L LS1 heads). The intakes are different and so are the cams, but the truck's parts are designed for low end RPM grunt.
