Default Another Spec takes a dump

Well, after about 10,000 miles, my spec 3 took a dump, one of the springs in the disk broke, throwing it into the pressure plate. After taking out the tranny, I found that the fly wheel, (spec alum) is still good, so I ordered the reface kit, and now comes the big question. To spec or not to spec. I am currently thinking about throwing in either a Ram HD, as per texas speeds recommendation, or another spec 3, but the plus model. Any opinions, how do you ram guys like your clutches?

I had a ram PG in my old ss and it did the same thing after 6000 miles.
Chattered VERY badly from day one and got worse. RAM said that was normal.

I don't recommend it.

I'm throwing around the SPEC 3+ or the Textralia clutch right now. I'm trying to read as much on both as I can but as for your situation, I am sorry to hear about it. My SPEC 3 has almost 35K on it and it is just now ever slightly beginning to slip in the high gears. The 3+ looks appealing to me but my vote's still out between the two I mentioned.

Textralia here. I plan on running heads/cam though it with no problem at all. Maybe even nitrous

Switched to a Tex after my Spec 3 welded to the flywheel at 6k miles. Love it, wish it had been around when I bought the Spec 3 to replace the stocker.

Your 533 HP on the spray? And probably north of that on the torque with spray? I'd look at a Spec 4F, 5, or dual. Regardless of what brand clutch you choose put in a bellhousing at the same time if your tracking & spraying.

I had some problems early with my SPEC 3+, it turns out that I needed to NOT use the shim with a new flywheel. It now works great now. I reccommend it, as well as the textrilla. The textrilla and the SPEC3+ are both good clutches. I went with the SPEC for the reason it was cheaper, and I didn't have the money for the Textrilla.

Yeah sscatch what I said about recommending the LS7, I didnt realize you had 500+ HP on the spray. Yeah the LS7 prolly wouldnt be too good up there.

If you go back with SPEC, go with a springless disc (like the Spec4 or Spec5).

Mine welded itself to the flywheel on a 6000RPM launch after 6k miles. Got it fixed without pulling the trans though. Hopefully it doesn't happen again for a while!

Go with the stage 4...it is springless. Hard to pop springs out when there aren't any. Maybe the 4+ or "i" or whatever they call it now...lol I have no problems with mine and I daily drive it. From looking at what people say about it, you would think it is completely undriveable with a springless disc. This is not the case.

Textralia has had a lot of positive reviews but I can't speak for one myself. I was planning on spraying my car on top of h/c and if i did I was considering Spec 3+, but I wouldn't go regular 3 considering the responses/problems ALL over this forum regarding that setup

thats for the comments and opinions. I ordered a scatter shield already, just incase. I wanted to say that 90% of the comments were helpful. I am still considering. As far as buying a spec again, I think 10,000 miles was great considering the abuse that clutch took, so that is why I am considering it again. Right now I am leaning towards a spec 3+ or 4, a ram vds, or a tex. I will keep you posted.

get rid of spec. they're doo doo as far as any clutch goes for any car.. Textralia is pricey but you have to pay to play.. do it once and do that chit right and get rid of the spec... Mine through a few spring's, as well as ripped a puck clear off the hub.. So needless to say i'm not all too impressed w/ spec to say the least..

Yeah, my Spec 3 just took a dump also. A spring broke off of the disk. Just threw an LS6 clutch in there for a while because i'm working on other things and that clutch will do fine for now. If I had gone with a big dog clutch, it would have been a McCleod.
