Default I can hear the lifters, but no gauges lighting up...

What's going on with my car?! I can hear the lifters but no SES or CHECK GAUGES light is coming on. The car drives fine but the sound comes and goes. Is my car safe to drive to the shop? Something must be going out.

Are you sure it's the lifters? Could you describe the sound so people can have an idea of what it sounds like? Could just be the typical ls1 piston slap.

the motor has 121000 on it and is almost bone stock except for a K&N air filter and an open cutout for the exhaust that was all put on at 120000. the sound is like a light continous tapping that picks up when i accelerate. the oil was changed and the oil pan gasket was changed at 120000 as well. i guess the previous owner was pretty bad about his oil changes.

that thread seemed to help a bit. should i change my oil out?

update: i just turned the car back on and popped the hood. it was definately coming from the motor but not sure exactly where and all the sudden it got lower and went away. i reved it up a bit and i couldnt hear it anymore. oil pressure is fine too. stumped! no service lights came on either. my friend said it wasn't throwing any codes the other day either when he checked it.

My car does the same thing. When its cold it ticks like crazy, sounds like ****, and really pisses me off . Once it warms up, it runs great and makes zero ticking noises. I think it is just the tolerences within the engine, and when everything heats up and expands everything fits better.
