Default Lost to 02 GT? :(

I just got my car a few days ago.. and this kid I knew from school (17 parents bought him his car AND all the mods.. nothing wrong with that.. im just jealous ) Has a 2002 GT with Intake, Full Exhaust, and 4.10s! From a 25 roll to 90.. he took me by about a car. In 1st, I was ahead of him, and in second I was still ahead.. but on the 3rd gear shift he started pulling and pulled a car ahead of me when I stopped. I was shifting at 6k (lightly)... Should I have been able to take him? or is his car just faster?

I havent gotten new plugs/wires/tune up done yet..

If you have a m6 you should have took him as soon as you hit 3rd. Mustangs take off pretty good but third is they're weak spot.

Yeah.. both cars are M6(edit: Manual) .. I think I shoulda took him to.. we actually raced like 4-5 times.. Once was from a dig I spun in first.. and let off because of bad launch. 2 Times from a Roll I had him but he said we didnt start equal or whatever (first time launcing the car EVER.. first time launching a car with any real power.. before I only launched a v6 mustang.. which could be revved real high without spinning) I think I need a tune up

Is this full exhaust including LT's? Because if not, i don't see how he could possibly pull you up top...Even if he had LT's it should be close. 02 GT's only make about 225Rwhp stock. With an intake and exhaust (without LT's) he should have no more than 245Rwhp...

I THINK he had full exhaust.. because I dont think GTs idle as loud as his does with just CB.

I know I should have won.. I mean.. I'm not an expert driver considering I just got the car.. but I have like 30-40 more rwhp than him! another thing is .. I had 1 passenger, and he had no passengers.

You should race him to a higher speed. I can't see his GT trapping any higher than 102 or so...You should be able to hit 106-108

Also my T-Tops were off... did all of these little things add up? o.O I cant see the t-top / passenger making that much of a difference.

Depending on the passenger, it can make a difference. Every 100lbs is about a tenth and roughly 1mph...You have a 300lb guy in your car, your losing some speed.

Kid was small.. maybe 140lbs? do the t-tops make that much of a difference?

It makes a lot of difference, even with the windows down.
since you just got your car you will learn. It takes practice to be a good driver. when it comes to racing, the driver makes a lot of difference. Have fun with your car they are a blast to drive , I can't keep my foot out of it. If you have a drag strip near by that's the best place to race and learn.

I drove my v6 stang damn good I just gotta get used to the new clutch and such on this car. I think even with a "bad" driver I should have took him.. I guess it was the t-tops/passenger/"bad" driver all adding up to him winning by a lil.. Thanks for the help

5 speed Mustang gt's weakest spot is 3rd gear. I've raced plenty.

Also just wanted to say taking off in a m6 from a dig is tricky you have to practice. Enjoy!

a car with 4:10 gears... esp an 02 stang should have pulled you up top if he just has intake and exhaust. it should have been backwards him with the lead through 1st and 2nd then you coming up from behind...... to me only the cobras have the killer 3rd gears.

i have a convertible and i stayed neck to neck with an 05 GTO ls2 from 0-115ish and we was Dead even like we had a bar connected to our cars. with my top down.

it affects drag some but 0-90 isnt gonna be a huge factor.
