Vw Gti 1.8t
Has anyone ever raced these kind of car? My friends own one of these and I race him for fun on the highway all the time but he always seems to zoom way ahead with that damn turbo. My '98 T/A is 305 stocked A4 and his (180hp)GTI has a GIAC X+ chip (+40hp) and its manual. Is it just because my T/A is heavier and an A4. I only had my T/A for 3 months now and planning to add mods soon.

since I see your driving an auto it shouldnt be difficult for you go very fast. Just mash the gas all the way to the floor. I mean if you want to you can shift your car manually not trying to be an *** here but if you lost to a mostly stock 1.8t gti you shouldn't try to manually shift your car your not ready for that. Just mash the gas all the way to the floor. If you race him again and you lose there is something really wrong with your car and I would take it to a mechanic for diagnostics, there could be many things wrong with your car.

I wouldn't say there was something seriously wrong with his car necessarily. Not every LS1 car is running 12's. A buddy of mine has a lightly modded '03 GTI 1.8T. He's got a chip (GIAC iirc), exhuast and intake. His ETs suck donkey *****, low 14s somewhere, but he traps 105/106. This is at a track that's known for being slow, and where stock and lightly modded LS1s routinely trap 103-107.
Especially if they're going from a roll, 5-spd vs. Auto LS1 I don't see a reason a well driven 1.8T could eke out a win. It shouldn't be dramatic, but to say a stock LS1 should be pulling buslenghts on a modded 1.8T is just wrong.
As a data point, weight on these cars is ~700lbs less than a LS1 F-bod, and just the chip should net 220+hp, and ~260 ft/lbs of torque.

they're a quick little car for getting 30mpg combined but the LS1 is just out of its league. they need a lot to beat one of us even stock. tell him to start a roll race at 30mph and mash it to the floor. watch him disappear.

fbodies put down 300+hp and 300+fpt stock....
modified were're talking 325+ and over 350 torque lid and catback only.
The higher the speed in the race, the outcome would be buslengths.

Wait so the awd 1.8T GTI's only weigh 2600-2700 pounds? My fbody, full weight, weighed in at 3400 pounds, so that would put the GTI at 2700 pounds? I thought they were heavier than that. Plus can the stock GTI turbo make that much boost to have it run with an ls1? Ive raced a couple buddies modded 1.8 GTI's and even with an ecu flash/tune, turboback, BOV, and WGA they still werent pulling on em when I was stock. I wouldnt beat them by buslengths but id steadily walk on them as the speeds increased.
