u think its the tranny mount?

tranny mount more than likely. or your torque arm mount could be getting loose. but i would check the tranny mount first.

My 98 car did that and it turned out to be the bolts on the driveshaft being loose. Hope you find the prob and if not you always can drive a hour and let Nick check it out.
Thanks again for the cats, they should get here tomorrow.

hey guys would a loose PHB cause vibration and chatter in the backend? Im thinking i may need to check that out or LCA's???

If you buy a poly mount, get a 1LE piece. The energy suspension piece will definately cause vibration. Nothing wrong with it, it's just a harder material and you feel more of the vibration in the car. I had the same problem with mine and it was the trans mount. I had the energy suspension mount though. But, like the other guys said check for loose bolts and wear and tear before replacing stuff.

Well took it to a local mechanic and drove him up the road so he could hear it. He says its exhaust drone. Im sorry but thats what my hooker catback with catted Y fixed correct??? He said the trans mound looked ok..he took a prybar and moved it and he said it was fine. He took a prybar to the PHB and LCA's and pry'd on them and he said they felt ok. He said there was no need to tighten the bolts. WTF guys??

im not buying exhaust drone. just because he couldnt move it with a pry bar doesnt mean its not broke under a load from the motor. :eyes:
i say replace the the mount and go from there. Prolly wouldnt hurt to replace it even if its not broke.

i've got an energy susp. mount in my car, and it vibrates pretty bad, but it beats replacing tranny mounts every few months. f-bodies are notorious for busting tranny mounts, even my 3rdgen ate them for breakfast. i'd swap it out, it's only like 10-20 bucks, and you can do it in the driveway. very easy swap.

not just by looking at it. Just put another stocker in there and be done with it. You could do a poly mount but you will hate it. Sure...it wont break or move...but it will vibrate to high hell and back. i put one in once back when i had the auto....drove it around the neighborhood and took it out as soon as i got back.

its a 7 bolt job.
2 in each side of the crossmember....
1 in the center of the crossmember...
2 on the mount bolting to the tailshaft of the tranny....
piece o-cake. ;)

Is your exhaust system broke or cracked anywhere? Are all the tranny an torque arm bolts tight? Is the driveshat dented anywhere. Also, if the tailshaft bushing in ur transmission is worn out it will cause a vibration while the car is moving. I ran into that problem on my car one time. Double check every nut and bolt and just look over everything twice. Your bound ta find the problem. Hope you get it fixed.

Does it do it at the same rpm in every gear? Will it do it if your rolling (at a speed where it would normally happen) then put the car in neutral and raise the rpms? How long has it been doing it? Did you change anything around the time when you first noticed it?
Also doesn't a broke tranny mount sound like the tranny is gonna come through the floor during a shift?
00 YEAH

i was also thinking flywheel bolts, but if its only at a certain RPM, i dontthink they would fall under that category. i think it would be all the time.

08-04-2006, 11:23 AM
well it happens at the same rpms in every gear. At 1000 rpms my rattle/vibration in the car is really getting on my nerves. I had a mechanic to check the bolts to LCA's and PHB and he said everything was tight. I dont know whats up? I dont think this would be coming from exhaust would it??? My hooker catback is quiet and exhaust drone is out of the question i would think  :bang:
JonCR96Z

Well if its the same rpm in every gear then that rules out everything from the driveshaft back on the drivetrain. I originally thought flexplate/converter bolts but he said it sounds like its coming from the back too. I read in another post that you were saying something about a heat shield rattling, maybe its that or exhaust just hitting something maybe a hanger came loose. See if you can move the exhaust system around enough to hit anything.

haha check this out i keep my cutout open and it seems to not do it near as bad. What does this mean??
jlashley2001ss
08-04-2006, 02:52 PM
or maybe its just loud enough to make me forget?
JonCR96Z
08-04-2006, 10:37 PM
Either you can't hear it over the cutout or it is in the exhaust. How does the gasket look on the cutout? Maybe it is just a leak.
jlashley2001ss
08-05-2006, 10:23 AM
would a leak cause a vibration you think?
JonCR96Z
08-05-2006, 11:42 AM
Not sure on that. I thought maybe it just sound like a vibration. Can you feel it?

Agreed, thats where im takin my car when I get it tuned, I know Many people who took their cars their and had nothing but good experiences

well about RPM....not very impressed when i took my car there. First off tune was horrible. I had to take it back to them 3 different times and still wasnt right. The last time i had them do the tune my tranny felt like the torque converter was lockin and unlockin weird. These guys did the cam install for me right before all this tuning accord l must add. Well end up being they didnt add tranny fluid after losing some during the cam install. RPM guys said that my tranny needed rebuilding. WTF!!!!! So RPM is out of the question

I don't know them personally, but I've seen cars that have RPM stickers on them and I'm not impressed. I would go to CarolinaAutoMasters for a tune. I wouldn't take my stuff their for them to work on, but I do my own stuff anyway.

well it still does it with cutout open....just cant hear it as bad. It seems like it didnt really start doing this vibration until i got to cutout on and had the 3in. pipe(catback) installed. I wonder if i were to just do a custom true dual exhaust using 2.5in. pipe over the axle and forget about the cutout would this be a better setup and eliminate the vibration.

Have you check all your exhaust hangers? It could be you exhaust is actually vibrating around whenever it gets up to a certain rpm from the exhaust pressure. Is any part of the exhaust real close to the body? It could be moving around hitting ur floorboard causing you to feel a vibration. Put the car up on some good jackstands or a lift and start the car up. Have a friend help you and be very careful. Put the car in gear and run it up to the rpm where it usually stars the vibration. You or your friend can then look and see if they can find what is vibrating under ur car. Note, be very careful doing this. Don't just crawl up under the car lay there, look from the side. Also don't rev the car up too high an rpm, free wheelin could cause you to damage something and vibrate the car around on the stands or lift. Let me know if ya find ya problem.

really, what cars have you "ran into"? Dont recall ever being embarassed while i had that banner on my windshield......
as a side note, RPM takes in AT LEAST 2 cars a week for tunes where the specific complaint is "jeff creech did something to my car, and claims he doesnt know how to fix it."
Also form personal experience on more than one occasion, Jeff Creech has been, for lack of better words, a complete asshole to me and friends who i brought there.
Horrible businessperson.
