Default Powder Coating a bunch of stuff Gotta few Q????

Before my car heads to the chassis chop for the cage and 4 Link I stripped it of every bracket under the hood, engine pillies, brackets, bumper brackets, hood latches, Master Cylinder, Upper A arms, spindles, and hub assemblies calipers and some other stuff. Anything that doesnt require parts to be taped off will be Electroplated since its much more scratch resistant and it has a cool satin black finish that I like. The rest will be powdercoated black like the calipers and brake master cylinder and booster.

Providing that I tape off the wheel studs on the hub assemblies and correct places on the brake components will the heat have any ill effects on these components?

Ive already gone through and sandblasted all of the componets i just need to finish taping some stuff off.

thanks,
-john

I dont think so, I have hardpiping for my blower powder coated, and the tubing doesnt stay cool. The powder coat has lasted me for 4 years now with no problems.

Powdercoating ovens usually run in the 400-450 deg F range - so anything that can take that heat will be fine.

Don't know why YOU are masking off parts that are gonna be powdercoated though? That's part of the powdercoaters' job and what you pay for...

Will the wheel bearings in the spindles hold up? That would be the only things I could think ofI would take those out, just in case. Not real cheap to replace. Easy, yes, cheap no. Take before and after pics!

When I've had things powdercoated I've had to take them apart before having them coated. So if you can take it a part then by all means do it.

They tape stuff up.. you don't..

They also use a special tape that doesn't melt in the oven. Make sure you take it apart as far as it goes and tell them what you don't want powdered.

the stuff i refered to taping up some of the threaded studs on some of the brackets, the reason for me to be taping them up is because their going with one of my good friends to his place of work. ( he works for a local stainless container company) the have their own powdercoat line in house so were keeping my parts on the DL from his boss, We figure the less time they spend in the open the better off well be lol.

I would rather have the spindles and hubs go for Electroplating since it would hold up better, it doesnt come out glossy but a nice satin black. The problem tho is that it is a liquid process so you cant tape off the threads on the studs or vital areas.

il post pics.
