Default Cutout on a restrictive exhaust on a high-hp turbo car

heres the deal....i bought a magnaflow due to a good deal for the car this year. i knew it was going to be restrictive, and planned to use a cutout.

in true bench racing fashion, what kind of gains should i expect using a 3" cutout over the full exhaust on my setup at around 10-15psi...(setup in sig).... what kind of gains power wise, at the track, etc

thanks

First of all, the Magnaflow flows VERY well. I just switched from a 3.5" Aerochamber to a 3.5" Magnaflow and dropped backpressure from 48 psi down to 34 psi.

That brings me to my 2nd point. If you use an e-cutout and the muffler has some backpressure, the boost will rise - possibly alot. I have 2 severely blown head gaskets to prove it. I dropped the muffler and gained 6-8 psi boost.

hey turbo ls1 ss, i also plan on running a 3" electric cut out about 3 feet from the turbo on my hiflo downpipe. let me know how it goes for you, also i plan on tuning for the cutout being always open, so when its closed i can race slower cars (if it will work like that)

good question. I have dual 2.5 cutouts in the y-pipe and use a stock catback. Seems to flow ok

Me too, duel 2.5's in the y.
You can feel the diff.
I think about 5% HP gain over my borla w. no cats.

good news......

i did some late research and it seems people are gaining 50-80rwhp....... which makes me warm and fuzzy inside ..... my guess was ~30-40.....so..this should be good. i defenitely notice my tailpipes are getting pushed out of allignment since ive been boosting....hehe

FYI....the magnaflow is advertised as a full 3" exhaust..when in fact, right at the beginning of the I-pipe, as with other sections, it is down to like 2.75" ID (maybe less), and the beginning of the tailpipes is like 2.5" OD, IF THAT, which is shitty. my buddy just switched from a true dual setup that was as small as 2.5" in some parts, with 1 3/4" headers, to KOOKS 2", and a 4" mufflex on his built procharger setup. that DEF free'd up some ponies.

Anyone actually had a dyno of an open versus closed cutout?

Will there be much of a difference if the cutout is farther down by the passenger seat?

My opinion is closer to the turbo is better, but I am not sure it would make a huge power difference to have it further downstream.

Thanks. I like to have some real results to back up theories.

The problem is that it could be anywhere from 0 hp to 200 rwhp gain, depending on just how crappy your muffler is. Discard any results that don't have the exact same muffler and hp as you, and you don't have much left.

i just fixed my pre-turbo leaks....and noticed while a great improvement in power/spool/holding boost..im still loosing some boost on the top end...which has to be a result of wayyyy to much back pressure. its nice when u leave a 200ft tire mark from a 3rd gear pull at 3000rpms
