Default Tc76MPS LT1 turbo began... Updated Pics...

here are some pics.... slowly but surely...

I have to buy so much more still...

I have...

-the rad done.
-all the hotside pipes and pipes to do down pipe.
-cheaper turbo for temp use.
-tuning cable and software.

I Need...
-oil feed and return.
-Intercooler.
-Blow off and wastegate.
-cold side pipes.
-injectors.
-OBDI PCM.

I am 18 and jsut did graduate, so things are slow. But they are coming along (at least the parts are makign their way in finnaly).

I know you are all the experts in the ls1 field, but there are a few bad as F/I lt1s on the board and their help will be needed!

Looks real good so far, just take your time and don't rush things. Thats the main thing I have learned while building my car, it really pays to take the time and get the right parts installed correctly.

Unless you like to tear **** back apart and redo it of course

Lookin great, me and my bro are/were in the process of doing his 95 LT1 Formula, but my appendix went south so now I have to recover from that

We have the headers done, radiator relocation, and turbo placement as well. Just need to do the crossover now.

They look like any SBC shorty out there...wouldn't be too hard to cut em up and make em work.

Have you actually mounted the headers to see if they clear? If so, what brand and P/N are they?

You can use pretty much any header that is made for the Vortec trucks. Just get the shorties that are supposed to hook to the stock y-pipe. They fit well.

Mine are el'cheapo XS power headers.

I haven't decided if i want to cut the damn ball flange off and weld a v-band on or if im goign to cut the ball part off and use the normal 3 bolt header flange yet.

I'd use a V band, cleaner and will seal better than 3 bolt or ball and socket flanges.

Well i really want to.

-But one these headers are coated and dont want to recoat.

-Two. V-Bands are $$$ (not a big reason not to do it.. jstu a reason..lol)

-Three. I would WANT to have someone else weld them on because I definitly don't want to have a *OOPS* on a nice exspensive v-band on my headers. And this would really raise the cost of it on top of not having a single idea who I would have do it.


Any suggestions on overcoming these problems then I'll get to ordering some 3" v-bands...

Here ya go bud. Weld a 2.5" vband flange to the ball socket portion of the header. This wil allow you to retain th coating on the header and 3 bolt flange for looks.

Welding up a v band is no harder than welding up pipe to pipe really.

Just slip it over the pipe tack in 4 places and finish weld it up. Use another short section of pipe from the front to keep it aligned when tacking it up. Works like a charm.

But I hear you on the coated stuff, no easy way around that.

The V bands can be had for pretty cheap, quality stuff too.

Not a bad idea... but if im going to just weld a v-band in (on the ball flange or not) then I mise well cut all the 3-bolt flange mess off.

The beauty of doing it my way is that you dont mess with the coating. If you cut the 3 bolt flange off, then some of the header itself will lose the coating and you'll need to recoat. If you just grind off some of the coating/welded on the ball flange part as I pointed out, then the rest of the header (inclusing 3 bolt flage) will look $$$ when people look under the hood.

Im getting it piece by piece. Im waiting 2 weeks for the headers) then once i get them..ill order the next part. That way im not biting my nails with $6k+ to a place that might make me wait. So when I get the headers Ill get the header to turbo pipe..then i get that..ill get the downpipe. Im making the coldside myself though.

Nick, you can do that, but then you'll have bare metal at the bottom of the header that will rust (and will be in plain sight. You would need to recoat the whole header. If you leave the 3 bolt flange and just weld to the ball then the 3 bolt flange will shield the weld from plain sight and you can paint the new portion of bare metal up to the underside of the 3 bolt flange, and from the top of he header it will just look like nice with the original coating. thats the cleanest way to do it witout recoating the whole header.
