Default Paging Bob from EPP, D1SC inlet question...

I have heard you sell an aftermarket metal inlet tube for the LS1 D1SC. Do you also sell one that will work on an LT1 D1SC? I have the Hooker LT's, and the BMR upper and lower A arms, as well as the BMR crossmember, and I need a good replacement to the plastic elbow that the D1SC comes with.

What we use is a 4" aluminum elbow. During some testing we managed to suck shut a silicon 4" elbow, so aluminum is the only thing we reccomend. As for right now, its pretty much a DIY on this. We are working some bugs out of our kit before we start selling it openly. Im not sure on the lt1's what kind of room you have, Do you still have AC? If not, then you could possibly move the bottom of the radiator forward to have even more room for a intake pipe to the elbow. Good luck, any questions just shoot me a pm or post them in here.

I do not have AC, however the biggest room restriction seems to be just in front of the inlet side of the blower and then below. I am not sure a 4" aluminum pipe would fit. Possibly with some fabrication, but I doubt there is 4 inches in between the inlet side of the blower and the exhaust manifold.

Do you guys have anything that would work on my set up? Even if it is just a metal pipe bent slightly to hook up between the air filter and the blower?

What we used on the first fit was a 4" elbow, it was a tight fit but it worked good. Some other users have been using that cobra/mustang plastic elbow, im not sure of the results on that peice. We achived about a 75hp gain just taking off the fbody elbow, this shows how restrictive it is.

How different is the LS1 setup vs. the LT1 set up for the D1SC as far as space goes? This will be the determining factor for an elbow.

With ATI's new and improved plastic inlet elbow my car made 490 RWHP at 10#'s of boost. Without the inlet it made 590 RWHP at 15.7#'s of boost!

My motor shop has fabricated a new inlet tube for me, but the silicone is collapsing causing it to only make 8#'s of boost and I can tell it is down big time on power.

My question for you is; Do you at EPP have (or could make) a metal inlet tube for my LT1 D1SC that is not restrictive? I understand that some tube will be more restrictive than no tube, but I would like to still be able to make 13#'s of boost or so. This doesn't seem like it should be unattainable. Can you help me out?

The gain you got from removing the inlet is pretty much the same we got when we took off the inlet on a test car. Its amazing how restrictive the stock hat is on these kits, 100hp is a HUGE differnce and should be addressed.

Currently we do not have a intake kit for the fbody d1sc. With a 90 deg elbow we went from 14psi to 18psi on a d1sc. As you can see with mikes car in our project car section of our website, we picked up about 100hp with the intake we did for him.

The main thing about running a 90deg elbow is to relocate the intake filter. Its allways a wise idea to up the filter size when doing this, as the stock filter on these kits doesnt look too large.

Jake @EEP can you post up a pic of the 90* elbow..For the lt1 we need a very sharp turn 90* of the blower...

We used a aluminum elbow that i belive would not work in your situation. I would suggest looking into the 4" Cobrahead elbow that some people have been talking about. I remember seeing them on ebay a few days ago. It would be perfect for your application, as its low profile and 4" in/out.

Jake, can you (EPP) fabricate something to work for our application? Other than doing some bending of some form of metal tube, it doesn't seem like it would be that hard. It seems like you may be able to even use some exhaust piping to do it.

I really am in a bind here and need something that will work well soon.

I will talk with the guys and see what we can do for you on this, being a one off im not sure. Im not 100% sure of the clearances on the lt1 vs the ls1 placement.

I would be down for one made for my D1SC 383, so I wouldn't have to worry about making one.

Unless we take the A.C. off our '95 Formula, we don't currently have an LT1 car to try an inlet modification on. I would imagine the bottom of the radiator would have to be kicked forward as we have done on the LS1 F Bodys. Bob

Bob,

Why would the radiator need to be moved forward? Remember, the LT1's are a standard rotation blower, unlike the LS1, which is a reverse.

You absolutely right, I was thinking of the LS1 engines. The guy who started this post is bringing his car in tomorrow for us to see what we can do to make it work for him. Bob
