If it is a stock 8" wide rim, then yes you should be able to. I believe 255 is the widest recommended width for an 8" wide wheel. My friend 'upsized' to them on his firebird and I am not aware of any rubbing or fitment issues.

255/50ZR16 is an acceptable upgrade.

i figure no street tire is going to hook up so might as well put a wide one on there to look cool.

I also ran a set of stock 5-spoke wheels with 255/50/16 BFG's with no problems. Well, there was one problem... They were the demise of the carrier in my 10-bolt.

I got 245/50/16's, but i bought 17X9.5 ZR1's, they are in route.
Ill be getting 285/40/17's.... I cant wait.

I can spin 245's too easy now. And I like that don't get me wrong, but this LT1 needs more meat.
and damnit, these Sawblades/salad shooters/pizza cutters... they gotta go.
_____

255/50 I thought was the widest you can go on 16X8's, but I guess thats not true.
Makes little difference to me anyways.
