Cleaning MAF screen
I put in a K&N air filter recently and when i was going about cleaning the air box, i saw a bunch of crap stuck to the MAF screen. I read somewhere that you are not supposed to put any pressure on that, so how do you clean it? Or am I being paranoid and i should just scrape the crap off. Looks like a few little pieces of paper are stuck to it, but that blocks a seemingly significant portion of the screen.
And yes, I'm new at this.

You want to figure out why your air filter is
being so ineffective. But I'd go get a can of
"QD" cleaner from Home Depot and just spray
until it runs off clear (paper towel will show).
If this is the stock Oreo style MAF, you can
disassemble it to clean the front piece. But
the center section wants the wires clean too.
You need a Torx screwdriver, though a flat
of exactly right size will do if you're lucky.

I haven't owned the car it's whole life, so I'm guessing previous owner did something screwy (couldn't possibly be my fault )
But seriously, the old air filter I pulled out of there was trashed. This car is turning out to be a good lesson for stuff I should've checked when I got it a year ago. The airbox was full of dirt and the filter was clogged. After cleaning and a good filter, my baby is flying. who knows what else i need to look at. Going to change the oil filter today and i hope it's not a scary mess in there also. (haven't done many miles on it, so i didn't think to change oil filter yet)

The company CRC just came out with a cleaning spray just for MAF sensors. I know that all napa's carry it or can get it (since i work for one), but im sure any auto parts store that sells CRC brand products could get it.

Hey,. just so that you know,... if you use the CRC M.A.F. cleaner......... Seriously let the stuff dry for an hour or more if need be (even though it says that it evaporates in minutes). If you don't,.....lol....... enjoy try'n to start her up! Trust me on this!!
