Gears & Axles - 2 series gears on 3 series carrier?

I plan on going slighty higher with the gears, but my question is how do I make 3 series carrier gear fit onto a 2 series carrier gear if it is possible. Or should i just the 3 series carrier itself and put the gears on. I plan on either going a little higher with 3.23s or going all out with 3.73s.
What is the structural difference between 2 series and 3 series?

If you have a gear set lower than 3.08's they are a 2 series carrier. A 3 series is anything higher than 3.23's.

You can buy a set of gears that is made just for a 2 series carrier...

I heard that the 3 series gears were stonger than 2 series. I also want to get used ones because it will be a lot cheaper but they will most likely be for 3 series. Is there any way i can make a 3 series gear fit on a 2 series carrier?

They make spacers, or you can buy a thick gear. The only difference is that on a 2 series case the flage is further over away from center than the 3 series. When you switch to a higher numeric gear you have to get a new case, thicker gear, or a spacer. The thick gears add a good bit of weight, the spacer isnt soo bad, but the proper case is the right way to go.

When it comes to one gear being stronger than the other in a 10 bolt, it's a crapshoot. If you buy new, get the ones that are made for your car. If you insist on using used 3 series gears then you would need a spacer to compensate, as the gears that come on a 2 series carrier would be thicker.

so your saying it doesnt really matter what series or gear it is because it is going to break anyway

Well, not so much...I'm saying that it is a crapshoot because in the grand scheme of things, when it comes to 10 bolts, one thing may be marginally stronger than the other, but not enough to make a difference. If it's going to break, it's going to break. If you are going with something like 3.42's though, and you have an automatic on top of that, you have a much better chance of being just fine.
