Chevrolet Camaro 1967-2002 - 98+ hood differences

I was just wondering why some z-28's have a regular hood and some have a hood with a scoop, kind of like they had in 79..Teardrop style intake...Are these ram air models, SS, Aftermarket or what?? Also what CODE or acronym do people use when describing the package that will Include this hood system.. Thanks russ

the ones with the scoop are the SS style. its supposedly "raim air" but not a very good one. it does function though, but only at high speeds

Your reffering to the Super Sport hood. This hood was part of an apperence item along with a bigger rear spoiler and 17" wheels. Super Sports were also noted with an obvious "SS" badge on the drivers side, passengers side, and under the passenger side tailight. The SS debuted again after a long absense in 1997 and remained untill the final year of the camaro.

Many people with a Z28 take an SS hood and put it on the z28 for apperence. IMO it was the best available hood for any f-body.

SS's tend to have a higher re-sale value, how-ever performance differences are debatable. If there is anything else of importance, please fill me in.

That is right, sorry about the error. I know exaclty why it happened also. I was looking at a potential new Camaro the other day. It was a 1996 convertable, but it had all 30th ann. 1997 z28 stuff on the car. white, orange stripes, white leather interior...

You are kidding right? You know enough about Camaro's to relate the style to a '79, and to know that you are looking at least at a Z28, but you dont know what they are called?

If you have seen the SS hood on a car how could you not have seen the emblems?

I guess because i HAD a 79 Z-28 and i never REALLY paid that much attention to camaros after they quit making the 81 style.. I have SEEN the hoods on the newer cars and AM thinking about buying a 98+.. I JUST wanted to know how i could tell if a CAR had this package when someone was describing the car in an ad and it did NOT have a good enough PIC to see the DAMN HOOD.. Is this CLEAR enough for you guys.. Russ
