Default Just ran a 99-02 Cobra Vert

My g/f and I were going home and this white cobra vert (top down) turned left in front of us while sitting at a red light. I looked over at him and he looked over at me and he pulled into a gas station behind us. My light went green and I drove on to the next stoplight. I was sitting at the stoplight and the cobra rolls up next to me. I turn my a/c off and the light turns green. I creep off in first and he hits it so then I lay into it. My car jumped up next to him and I started to pull on him but was shifting at 5500. When I let off he was at my rear fender (80ish). We slowed down and cruised to the next light where I rolled down my pass window and I gave him a thumbs up and my g/f told him "nice car" and he said the same back. I then turned off and came home.

So what are those cars rated at? I'm just wondering if I should have pulled him more. The only mods I have are in my sig.

You were lucky to do so well. Must have been the drag of higher speeds with the top down..JP, but in all reality he should have had you by a car at least I'd think.

Unless he was one of those GTs or even v6 stangs I've seen sporting the Cobra back fender and emblem , unlikely though I guess since he did keep up despite the low shift point. Nice kill.

you raced either a 99 or '01 as there was no '00 or '02 except the 2000 Cobra R in which case you woulda got destroyed so we know it wasnt that car, but all in all sounds about right, the 99 and 01 cobras were rated at 320 HP but they dont put down LS1 numbers, typically they see 280 rwhp so with your mods and assuming he was lightly modded the race went exactly how it should have....nice kill

Yeah I heard that Ford got a bunch of complaints from Cobra owners from the 99 year because they're cars were NOWHERE near what Ford said they had. I assume that is why the 2001 is a bit more of a challenge.

SVT dealers eventually "fixed" all the underpowered 99 Cobras.

I took a 99 Cobra from a third gear roll on the freeway, beat him with no problem. that's when my car was 100% stock.

How quick should an 01 Cobra Vert be with full exhaust, intake and a "chip"?

There's a guy out here wanting to run me, mods are in my sig

Sorry for hijacking the thread

I raced a white cobra a few times, I think a pre 03 at the track, and I beat that thing pretty good....It never ran faster than a 14, usually a 14.2 or so... must have been a crappy driver, or a badged/spoilered up GT...I have it on video, but no way to upload...

If it has full exhaust, intake, and a programmed chip it should wail on your *** pretty bad.

They cost a lot for a reason, if he has a bunch of track type suspension mods he might have over stiffened the shocks and springs hurting his launch though.

I know it wasn't a 99-04 GT because I played around with a vert GT before. He was about 1 1/2 or 2 cars ahead of me in the next lane and he got on it around 45mph or so and I hit it in 3rd (if I was serious, I would have been in 2nd) and that put me right next to him, covering the 2-2 1/2 carlength spread real quick. I started to pull him and then got busted by a motorcycle cop that was hiding up the road. Wreckelss driving.
