Just got some LS1 alternator brackets (Camaro style) to put on my LS2 crate engine. Brackets bolt up fine, but the crank pully alignment doesn't look like it is going to work. Not getting much luck with a site search, any one know if this will work?

Did find one post where one member said you "just need to pull the pulley out some"? Any hits how this is done?

Thanks for any help

The crate LS2 uses the Corvette style water pump and balancer. To use
F-body accessories and brackets, you will need to change the balancer and water pump out to the GTO or F-body balancer and pump. The belts run closer to the block on the Corvette style setup. Unfortunately, you will find a lot of aftermarket accessory drive parts are only available for the F-body style setup.

The only other way would be to use the c5 accesory brackets. They bolt up similar to the c6. John B is using the c5 accesories on his LS7. I went with the c6 accesories though, I bought new stuff, depends on you're budget. :)

Thanks for the replies, guys. Fortunately I am only out the $60 I sent GM for the new F body hardware. Haven't bought the alternator yet. Haven't been having much luck finding used hardware either. Don't see many of these shiny aluminum blocks in the pick and pulls.

Yet one more discovery on the road of hand building a hybrid.

Upon further review, it looks like I will be able to machine 3/4 of an inch off the engine side of the F body bracket. Then just fab up a new rear bracket and get some shorther bolts. Will post back if it works or not.

You need an fbody crank pulley/dampner.. I am running all fbody stuff on my LS2 and it all fits great.

The problem with the low driver's side alternator, is that on a very large percentage of early cars, the alternator is in the way of the steering shaft getting to the rack and pinion steering. Most standard steering boxes are not a problem, but R&P and a low mount alternator will quite often not work.

Check with Mark Cambell at S&P, for a huge selection of possible drive setups using both the F-body alignment and the Corvette one. You can pretty much put your accessories anywhere will work given the selection of brackets.

Damn. Sweet eingine pic.

Just got this brand new crate motor so the thought of switching WP and pulley doens't appeal to me. All I need is an alternator, and fortunately I won't have clearance problems on my 240Z.

From looking at the F body bracket it occured to me there is enough meat on the thing that I can probably machine 3/4 of an inch off the engine side and make everything work. Found another link of someone who did just that. Will definitely be the cheapest option in my application.

AL,
Use an Fbody alt bracket, (mounts it low and to the left). Machine the block side of that bracket to fit the shorter LS2 or corvette belt set-up.

And just for completeness, found these two sweet looking high mount bracket options
