I just picked up a nice set of lq4 heads for my supercharger build up. They only have about 2-3K on them and look to be in great shape and are already cleaned up. Is it worth the extra cash to have them ported or should I just put some stronger springs on and bolt them up? I'm not looking to make huge power because I'm keeping my stock bottom end for now. I'm looking for around 550rwhp with a safe tune. I'm going to try using my f14 cam. I'm at around 410rwhp now and am looking at either a d1sc or ysi set-up with a fmic, no meth on pump gas. Do you think that sounds reasonable with the the lq4 heads untouched?

With an F14 cam, I would leave them alone, maybe some good bowl blending, but nothing too radical..

well if it makes you feel any better, ive read and just finished searching for alot of people using lq4/lq9 heads in their setups---going well over 600rwhp and in most cases untouched and/or just upgraded springs.

im going for the lq9's and just upgrading valve springs and if im bored enough and have some free time ill pull the lil dremel out and port away till my arms fall off lol either way they should produce NICE numbers for you...alot of people also leave them untouched with verry respectable #'s

I'm having my LQ9's set up right now in Texas by a bud of mine. Just flowed 310cfm @ .580" lift and outrageous velocities. Not bad using a 2.02 valve. Deshrouding the chambers and what not, getting the heads ready to run high horsepower with much less boost.

So the 310 is after porting or did he just clean them up? Either way, sounds like they should work pretty nice.

I think the LQ9s will flow close to the 300 mark with very minimal work.. Hell I did a few sets where I did nothing but bowl blending, polishing the chambers and smoothing out the casting flashes inside the runners and got mine to flow in the 310's.. But with a cam as big as an F14, you want to keep your ports small and smooth, that cam will generate alot of air velocity with a smaller port and give you more low-end power..

I'll post some pics up in a few minutes... I'm worried about overall velocity and overall flow. My cam isn't giant (only .581 lift) so low-flow #'s make a difference in my application.

BTW - The ports were hit with 220 grit, haven't been scotch brited yet (is that a word? LOL).

I heard the LQ9's flow approx 240 @ .600+ bone stock. I would like to see a set of heads with bowl blending, polished chambers and merely cleaning the casting flashes flow 310. If you could achieve that by simply doing that, why is there a market for "ported" heads "stage-2/stage-3" heads flowing the same amount on a 2.00/1.55" valve (you didn't mention running a larger valve)? Hit me up, I want more information...
