Default Vigilante 3000 and 3.73's Good Match?

I have a strong bolt on A4.
Traction problems are coming to an end, bought some 17X9.5 ZR1's.

Anyways, do these make a good combo? As long as im around 20 mpg, im happy.

Anyone with something similar, drop a line. LS1 guys you to, lets just say ive made up the 1 sec difference

Any and all opinions welcome.

Call thunderracing and they will help you with your decision.I would think you would want a higher stall than that.

LT1s produce their torque lower then LS1, so his selection of a 3000 stall is fine. 3.73s will complement that stall just fine and you will still have about 20 mpg (once the TCC locks up).

personally i'd skip the gears for fuel economy reasons. no one can say for sure if your mpg will stay around 20 mpg. the only thing we can pretty much say for sure is it'll drop. gears aren't really going to make you any faster after a stall, it'll just make it more comfortable in city driving, so it's up to you to spend hundreds of dollars on a mod that'll lower your ET by a tenth at best, or raise your ET by making it twice as hard to grab traction. the stall speed sounds like a great choice for an LT1 though. enjoy!

not being rude, but are you honestly happy with the 273's????

IVE HAD MY CAR FOR A MONTH AND I HATE THEM ALREADY.....LOL
if your not at just the perfect rpm its sluggish as hell, that was the 1st thing i bought!!

dude i would say 373's or 342's, either choice will be a good one, GOOD LUCK!!

i like my 2.73's. they're not the fastest thing in the world, but they get me 21-22 mpg consistently. it's not gonna matter when you put in a stall. gears are known to add 1 tenth to your ET once you get a stall. think about it:

-the point of lower gear ratios are to get the gears to rpm faster through your dead spots so you get into your powerband faster.

-the point of a stall is to jump right into the powerband.

with a stall, you bypass the dead spots that the gears are intended to accelerate you through, making them almost useless for performance reasons. i'm not saying don't get them, they'll improve your driveability, but that's about it.

IMO, $500-$600 for a gear swap plus lost mpg and added wear on your engine and rear end isn't worth a lousy tenth off your ET and a little better driveability in stop-and-go traffic.

those will probably add to your traction problems. my experience with 17" rims is that they don't hook as well as 16". i assumed it was the lack of sidewall. i used bfg DRs on my stock 16s (255/50/16) and achieved low-mid 1.6x 60'. i switched to the '00 10 spoke ss rims with a 275 tire and it spun like crazy, using bfg DRs, also. my buddy had the same problem. 17s suck for racing and only created more of a problem for me. and seeing that your tq would theoretically come on earlier, i can only see that 17" rim giving you more trouble.

as far as the stall and gears - don't be afraid of the 373s. UNTUNED my car got 24 mpg on the highway @ 2,800 rpm (80 mph) with the windows down, t-tops out, a 300lb passenger & 50 lbs of luggage. i think the average would've been higher had i not been hotrodding on the way back. last i checked (before tune) i averaged 19 mpg which included 8 passes at 2 different tracks which also included ~10 "street pulls" or whatever you want to call it. i run the dogshit out of this car ALL THE TIME and averaged 19 mpg, not bad for an untuned 4k stall car with headers and 373s.

my car got 31 mpg on the highway BONE STOCK with 273s.

Your 10-bolt is going to come to an end about the same time as your traction problems.

Man I Hope not...

Im getting BFG G-Force Sport's 275/40/17
Thats should help
If I was a track puppy, I wouldn't consider gears. I'd get an Eaton Posi or new rear.
My car is a DD and it will never see hard launches on sticky tires.
Dont get me wrong, I love to have my fun amd race from a dig, but im not dead serious, I just want a little better of a setup.

I just want a good Stall and better gears.
