Your thoughts on a 3" cowl hood for my Firebird???
I have a black 97 Formula. I'm looking at getting an aftermarket hood for it. I love the factory style 96-97 WS6 hood. But with mixed reviews between the different companys that make the fiberglass WS6 hood and the prices between them, it would easily reach $1k for the hood and paint. But I found a 3" carbonfiber hood for my car from ViS Racing Sports. http://www.visracing.com/catalog/pro...oducts_id=3694
They make high quality carbonfiber [real carbonfiber] peices for the import scene, so their quality isn't a concern. I'm thinking of getting the carbonfiber hood to be a little different from all the other hoods available for the LT1. It would be much lighter then the stock hood and I wouldn't have to get it painted since it is carbonfiber.
But I was wondering if a 3" cowl hood would be a little ricey without the power to back up the looks? I know a LOT of people are buying the Sunoco hood right now, and I think this cowl hood looks somewhat similar to the Sunoco hood. The only picture I could find of one of their cowl hoods from a side view is on a Mustang: http://www.visracing.com/catalog/pro...oducts_id=3695
It doesn't look half bad.
What do you guys think, go for it and be different? Or would a 3" cowl hood be a bit too much?

And apparently they make a carbonfiber cowl hood for a 1970-1977 Mercury Comet. http://www.visracing.com/catalog/pro...oducts_id=2914

On the other hand, I always see people running flat black fiberglass hoods on their car so is it true that those don't need to be painted? Or are those people just wrecking their hoods?
