Overall thickness of the hood, the way it lines up with the front fenders.
On most aftermarket SS hoods, the front of the hood right near the headlights will be thick.
You will be able to spot that out easy.
Also there are numbers under the OEM SS hoods, and on the aftermarket ones there are not.

I have seen some aftermarket SS hoods that weight about the same. But yes most aftermarket hoods do weight less than stock.

Easiest way to spot it is in the scoop itself. If it has the snap in plastic grill it's OEM otherwise if it has something else in there it's aftermarket. Most of the aftermarket hoods don't quite look right either. Something is slightly off from the OEM ones but I haven't been able to figure out exactly what though.

I'm not sure about any other brands, but I know ASCD hoods come with the same grill that the OEM ones do. Just FYI.
