Default warrenty on cats? 80k miles?

my car is getting close to 8o000 miles and the ses light is on and the code is the right rear o2 sensor so it is possibly the cat. i am going to get it scanned from the dealer because autozone scanned it first. can anyone verrify the warrenty on emissions? is it 80,000 miles? do u have to be original owner? thanks.

edit: car runs fine. i dont think gas milage is too bad. probably 260 a tank, mostly highway. i wouldn't think sensor would be covered.....

code: p0430 catalyst system is efficent on bank 2. below threshold for current engine operating conditions. so throw your 2 cents in.

I just had my passenger side cat replaced under warranty. My car at the time had 59K on it and I had no problems as its 80K for MAJOR emissions components. Call the dealer and have them set you up. Took (3) days total for the repair.

Right - same here. I just had my driver's side replaced. In at 9:00am, out at 3:00pm. Free. Do it before you turn over 80k!

yep....just confirming...i had mine changed at 79,500ish right after buying it...original owner wont matter because the feds reimburse the dealership since they require the cats

im the second owner of my car and my cat failed like yours, same code. They might try to BS you saying its the o2, but you gotta call them on it. I had them drag a so call tech outside with a tech2 to make sure the o2s were working as they claimed, one wasnt.

I memory serves me right the Federal Emissions warranty covers the ECM, and cats and exhaust for 80,000. I dont know for sure though if the o2's are covered or not. I would think they are since they are part of the emission system.

Only problem you might have with this is this. I had my cat replaced at around 35,000 for the same error. By 50,000 the other cat threw the code and the ECm measure the flow rate or efficiency for both cats and when one if higher or lower than the other it triggers this code. I had one done and asked about having both replaced and GM said no.

Sure enough 15,000 miles later the other cat showed up on the code. I asked again and GM said no, said screw it remoevd them and edited the codes out and now dont have them anymore.

car ran fine with the clogged cat...or so i thought, when i had the new one put on, i did a lid, flushed the injectors, and changed my fuel filter at the same time and noticed a difference...not a huge one but there was a noticeable difference in how smooth it ran

Federal Emissions Warranty covers PCM and Catalytic convertors only for 8 years or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first. Exhaust systems and all other emissions related equipment are only covered for the first 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. California has extended coverage with additional components covered to 8/80, but only cars sold with California emissions are covered.

mine threw the code (passenger cat) last night and went by the dealer to confirm the warranty on the cats. I also have a oil leak somewhere so I got ext'd warranty through bank so I'll get that covered at the same time. It covers the gaskets as well on my ext'd warranty.

I think they extended the warranty because I got a recall notice from GM.
