most everyone will tell you transgo is the way to go, specifically the modified TransGO HD-2 kit from probuiltautomatics.

i have no experience with the kit or installation. all i can tell you is i want one and i wouldn't wanna attempt the thing for sure.

Been told the TCI is "almost as good and much simpler"
but that's secondhand at best. I also have a Trans-Go
that looks too much like a fistful of tickets to the ****-up
Lotto, to tear into....

I wonder who sells already-done valve bodies on an
exchange basis. That would be worth the kit price plus
hours@rate, to me. Something where the instructions
are basically "keep it right side up".

Question tuning the trans shift points or shift kit?

does a shift kit do the same thing as reprogramming the trans shift points? is there any gain doing one or the other or both? im not an auto fan so i dont keep up with them....?

Shift kits massage the pressure and the feed & bleed
orifices, to get you faster cycle action and firmer apply.
Some of the latter can be done with programming, the
former not so much (and messing around the pressure
can change the relative phasing of apply & release,
sometimes not for the better). Shiftpoints, that's all
tune and nothing about shift kit on the 4L60E.

You can get to a pretty satisfactory action just by
tuning (on a healthy trans in a low-mods car) but
if you're upping the power much, you probably will
put a shift kit on your second trans....

transgo is a good kit and it lets you customise how hard 2nd gear

will hit and kinda lets you customise how hard tc lockup comes in.

tc lockup with the trans go kit comes in hard it almost

will feel like you have another gear after the install.

my valve body was extremely dirty and full of metal.

I did mine in the driveway. my last one i did was at 9 hours

because i was **** about how clean everthing was and the

damn wind kept blowing dead grass around and into stuff

while I was installing it.

I would allow 12 hours if its your first time

it will take you all day saturday and maybe the evening

if you have never done on before

order the one form summit it comes with a video and

instructions.

if you have a fax machine i can fax you the instructions

msg me with the fax #

all yah need is a set of snap ring pliers some "dental tools"

"mechanics hooks" or what ever you want to call them

a jar of vaseline or transgel and normal metric hand tools

Default what else would u do while u had the trans apart?

would u put a trans cooler in it or a stall or anything else that would help get the most performance out of the stock trans that i can. if i should put a stall in it what sizes would be considerable with a daily driven bolt on Z28?

with a stall and or a cam, you need a transcooler.. the trans wont last long above 350rwhp with all that done unless its built.. BUT, if you got a 3500+ stall, and some 3.73s, id say youd be looking at low 12s if not 11s.. But the transcooler will help your tranny a great deal even with stock power..
