Default Shift Point/Shift Light Question

Obviously we cant shift the split second we see the light, and by the time we react the engine has a few more RPMs than when the light came on, so how much lower from your desired shift point do you set your shift light?

Like if you planned to shift at 6000RPM you wouldn't set your light at 6000RPM, but would you set it at 5700, 5800, or 5900 RPM?

100-200 is what I've always heard. Depends on how fast you are.

Mine is set at 300 rpm less which is too much. What happens is I wait a little to try to get some extra rpm and then more often than not hit the rev limiter.

I set my Raptor at 5900, so I figure by the time I react it's ~ 6100 RPMs. RPMs climb fast, so give yourself a window IMO.

My limiter is set at 6700, my shift light at 6500. I have yet to hit the limiter on any shift.

I guess it depends on if you're powershifting or not. If you lift off the gas when you shift, I'd say 100RPM. If you're powershifting, I'd say 2-300RPM.

Raptor is set at 5900 on stock redline. I've only ever hit the limiter on a 1-2 shift, and I attribute that to 4.10s and skinny tires spinning really really fast.

300-400 depending on how much power youre making, and also what kind of driver is in the driver seat. I found it was best to log me at WOT, and then see if my shift light was coming on at say....6k, what RPM did i actually shift at.....

You'd be suprised~! Remember, a shift light is just a tool. I'm sure ChrisR told you my thought process:

Anticipate the light in 1-2, watch for it in 2-3, and shift after it's on in 3-4

Woks like a charm for me!
