i have a 98 A4 Z28. it won't shift into second. i am getting trouble code P0751: Shift Solenoid "A" performance malfunction.

is it the solenoid thats blown or did my shift kit tear up the band?

Performance codes usually tell us that there is mechanical slippage. Circuit code failures tell us that it is electrical. Both of which can cause clutch failures. In your case it sounds like your band is hurt. If there is anything we can do for you feel free to contact us. Vince
