Default Detailed my beater...

The paint looked like absolute hell on this thing. It's a 97 cavalier that the previous owner obviously tapped danced on. It's got quite a few dings and scratches (that are apparently too deep to take out with what I used). I used two passes of Menzerna IP followed by one pass of FP. I was too lazy to use a glaze and frankly didn't want to waste the $.69 more on this car so I just went straight to Meguiar's #26 liquid carnauba wax. All of this was done using a PC set on 5.5 for polishing and 3 for waxing. I got a lot of scratches out but there are still a lot of very deep ones in there that I just couldn't seem to get out. Maybe I wasn't pressing hard enough as I let the machine do most of the work, I dunno. Nonetheless, the paint itself looks 100x better and shines like a ****. Spent a total of 7 hours on it yesterday and today so I figured I'd share the results.

Pic #1 - Fender before detail.
Pic #2 - Fender after IP/FP.
Pic #3 - Trunk prior to detail.
Pic #4 - Trunk after IP/FP.
The rest of the pics are after one pass of Meguiar's #26.

I'm gonna wait a week till it's been out in the sun for a bit then wash it and put another coat of 26 on it. Considering the condition the car was in before, this looks a hell of a lot better. I really like these Menzerna products, I just would have liked them to get out some more scratches than it did. Oh well, like I said, could very well be user error. Feedback welcome, especially from the detail guru's.

Nice work. I am working on my beater too..I have a few hours of work to go on it.

Notice the door & roof...The whole car was like that when I started.

Maybe I don't see enough of them, but that's the cleanest 5.0 I've ever seen.

Nice detail on both cars!

Since we're talking about beaters, what's the best way to deal with a hood and roof that's pretty much lost all of its clear coat? The first time I waxed my '94 S10 Blazer after I bought it, the paint in those locations was basically bleeding onto the applicator. This was nothing more than Meguiar's Gold Class.

I've thought about simply putting a coat of rattlecan clear over those surfaces. I don't care too much about the appearance, I just want to stop the paint from completely fading off.

Nice work on your cars!

I used to have a 89 hatch 5.0 5 speed all stock cept my flowmaster i miss that car but I love my formula. I couldnt wax it at all i clayed it and tried polishing but the paint would just come off. Stupid single stage paint. I could never get it looking the way i wanted it too.

Any tips/suggestions from the detailing people? I'm looking to improve. Also wondering if I could have done anything better to get some of the deeper scratches out.

PLEASE DO NOT POST THESE PICS!!!!! It is really bad when the engine bay of your beater is cleaner than my beloved Z.

If you wanted to make me feel bad, there are other ways of doing it!!

Nice job though, a vast improvment!
