That M3 was modified. The kid was 15, and could probably out drive 98% of the people on this board. It's a well known fact that the kid actually got away, but that they edited the footage, to an earlier scene in the chase, where the cars were at a near hault before the chase started.
I got a real kick out of the BS that came out of that video (Which is old), as they say a chip makes an LT1 powered Camaro have 350hp, and proclaim that the BMW ran 0-60 in 5.7 sec. :p You can also see that the officer was clearly not going to be rammed by the kid, as he veered to the right, not the left, and lost control (My guess would be that he was thinking of performing the Pit Manuever but went out of control).
The kid's dad turned him in the next day.
Afterall, no one out runs the cops (Or so they wanted it to seem). ~Not that I condone outrunning the cops, just that they could've been honest about it~.

lol who do you think edited it?.....i know here, the camaros dont use the lt1, they use the ls1....and the maurders are pretty fast....90% person gets away is because the little voice on your shoulder....the supervisor....calls it off...ehhh

Cops are not permitted to pit a driver until they have permission. They can't put civilians in danger so they need to wait for a good oppurtunity.
His job was to stay behind vehicle in hot pursuit, and he did a great job.
The M3 driver flinched and the cop lost it.
He could have passed that M3 is he wanted to.
In fact, I had a thread about a run in with a late 90's M3 and had it by over 2 lengths @ about 90 right from a dig.
Very quick, nice cars no doubt. Theyre fast.... but not that fast.

First of all, they do things like that to prevent other people from attempting to run. If they showed all the times someone got away, there would be a lot more people trying to run, which would equal a lot more unnecessary deaths. Pretty smart idea if you ask me.
And what makes you think that 15 year old kid could "outdrive 98% of the people on this board"? If you think thats good driving, then you have a lot to learn yourself. At 15, he couldn't possibly be "good". It's just luck. "Good" comes with experience and practice. He's just too young to comprehend the danger involved in going all out down the interstate. It'll catch up with him one day. 98% of the people on this board are too smart to do something that dumb.

well im in the 2% if its like that, and to do the pit, you have to be trained and approved by the supervisor.....do that move at speeds is not as easy as it looks on tv...ive had it done to me and done it to people in the past during the academy....its Fckn crazy

First off I stated that I don't condone try to outrun the cops. I can understand why they wouldn't want to air on TV a video of somebody leaving the cops behind. My only issue is the fact that they LIED about catching him. The kids Dad turned him in. They didn't catch him. They shouldn't have even aired it on TV.
Also, the kid must've had the luck of the Irish, cause he counter steered that car multiple times at high speed, whereas the cop, IMHO, had more trouble. Of course there is luck in driving/racing, but if you're a numbnuts, and you over counter steer, you'll eat it. He was running away from the cops for a long time. I honestly think the kid has some serious skill. I COULDN'T DRIVE LIKE THAT!!!!
Anyways, to each their own opinion. I was just trying to state what was edited out. I'm gonna go look for this miracle "350hp" chip for LT1's.

Watch the video. Watch the clip when the kid drives down into the ditch the first time. Watch the black object by towards the top of the screen. Then watch towards the end again where the kid somehow drives through the same median and the same object reappears..

well, as far as anything I've ever read that is a boosted E30 M3. 500+ hp any one?
Link to 700hp E30 M3 (http://www.kilander-racing.se/gallery/Pictures/338_2/PICT0380.JPG)
So I have no doubte that the E30 could walk the LT1, heck with some of the specs the sweds are runing with their E30's they can walk some of the heavy hitting LSX's. :engarde:

to be honest unexperienced drivers are sometimes the best, when i first got my license, i was one of the best drivers id ever seen, because nothing scared me, i would take curves at unimaginable speeds, drift and race at high speeds on country roads, when it came to hitting curves fast, no one could hang with me(that tried) But after i lost control the first time (trying to take an 80 degree curve at 105 in my old 93 z28 racing a fox body mustang) the car spun a 180, ended up perfectly in the other lane, and i kept going and passed the mustang going the other way. When he later asked me about it, i of course told him i meant to do it (he believed it). Since that day i lost a lot of my nerve, and if i race it is usually straight road only (i bend everyonce in a while) People i know all think of me as a great driver, in alot of aspects, but im not half of what i was

a cruiser weighs WELL over 2 tons so of course it would have slight trouble getting to 150mph as opposed to the BMW doing it so quickly.

Some heavy-hitting LSX's can walk heavy-hitting E30's as well.

How much practice do cops get, anyway...I mean, driving fast may be part of their training, doesnt mean they are good at it. I've seen plenty of people who were trained to do something and still embarrassed themselves trying to do it.
Plus the GM cars they drive loaded with equipment arent the ideal chase machine...the Camaro was the best thing they've yet to have, and its an understeering pig.

Oh please. He just put his foot on the pedal and aimed the car where he wanted it to go. He's just lucky nothing bad happened. A true experienced good driver would not even be on video. He would be at home eating lunch before the backup and helicopters even got there.

He didnt get going fast enough in the straights. To really get away from cops you need a highway with lots of exits close to each other and a car absolutly brutally fast enough to put enough distance between you and the cop that they lose sight of you and they can never know which exit you took.
If that car had pushed it to 180-190 and put more distance between himself and the cop, the cop wouldent have had any info to relay to cops waiting ahead.
Not to mention those cops sucked dick at driving. The cop swerved to avoid his own spike strip... didnt the units ahead think it would be an important piece of information for the pursuit vehicles to know which lane the spike strip was in. Also when the kid in the bmw faked like he was gonna sideswipe the cop... what a moron that guy fell right into the kids trap. Instead of swerving just hit the damn brakes if the kid looks like hes gonna swerve into you. If he does sideswipe you at the very least your heavy front end will clip his light rear end or he'll miss you all together and send himself into a spin.

Yeah just because your an asshole who is trained to drive doesn't mean you are an asshole who is still just an asshole who doesn't know how to drive.
You should see these guys. Here in Texas a tiny town of 700 people gets stuck with 4 cruisers each of which is thrashed because the morons in the station drive like morons.
Then the station tries to justify its existance by taking over $140,000 in fines in 9 months. This is in a town of only 700 people....

Innate talent is a big part of brilliant drivers. We could all go spend hours at driving schools and lap days and never be as good as the guys that run in NASCAR and ALMS and WRC.
So even at 15, the guy might just be damn good. Counter steering like that, Id say he has a nice intuition about what the car is doing and good reflexes too.
Hell, professional drivers tend to start their competitive racing before their teens these days in carting. If your 18 and want to go big time pro your way behind the curve. A lot of those NASCAR guys in particular were driving race cars before they could legally drive on the street.
But really great driving is also about consistency and judgement, and your average guy trying to get away from the cops likely does not have those.
Having said all that. Most Cops can friggin drive. Their training is good, they have tons of wheel-time and they regularly do have to do some pretty tricky stuff. Not sideways corners, but getting a car in front of a running suspect in a neighboorhood, running down a speeder who doesnt know hes busted when he went by doing 90, going through redlights safely, etc.
RANT:
And those shows are profit-driven sensationalist BS. They edited it because its what the audience generally wants to see. Same reason news nets will generally stick to the bias that their veiwers have. Its good for ratings. Al Jazzera shows Histani's picture and gives everything an anti-US cant because its what their veiwers want to see. Hell they admited it to a Marine PR rep once.
If they were socially concious about not letting people get bad ideas, they would never have aired that footage at all. Instead they saw something that was good for the show and edited it to make it batter for the show.
I can not stand the narration on those..."so this YOUNG PUNK decides to avoid the law.......HEEEEEE actually thinks he SMARTER than officer so and so.........looks like this GUY will be doing HARD TIME in stead of taking TIME OFF..." etc. God damn they cater to idiots. As if you can't see everything the inflection-challenged narrator is saying. Its pretty obvious we are not watching intellegent upstanding citizens running from the police in a stolen 84 Accord while high on meth after beating the shit out of their families. I dont think we need annoyingly overdone narration to figure it all out.

I'm amazed at how many people on here think that 15 year old kid is a good driver. Your an idiot if you think so. Some of you obviously need a lesson in what good driving is. I watched that video again, what a joke. All he did is cruise down the interstate weaving around cars. How does that make someone a good driver? He did halfway decent because he had a well built forgiving sports car, nothing more. That cop in the LT1 camaro did pretty damn good considering. He was on that kid nearly the whole time, right on his every move. I don't see why people think the kid did so good. Like I said, if he was such a good driver, he would not have been hanging around long enough to have a bunch of backup and a helicopter on him. And for the guy that said he got away at the end, but the video was edited, where did you come up with that? Do you have a link to the article or something? I'd have to see some proof before I believed that.

Look at the video one more time watch the part where the lay out the spike strips and he slams on the brakes, now look at the last scene where he "breaks down", the scenes are identical. The cops are just as reckless as he is, true he's driving like an ass but so are the cops who are following him. If they felt like he was driving dangerously, and he was endangering other motorist they should have backed off. Hell he got away anyway, BTW if there was a chopper he wouldve never got away.

I was just wondering how everyone knows he got away. Just because they did some editing doesn't really mean the outcome was staged. I am not arguing either way, just curious to know what really happened and would like to see some proof. No one has been able to show a link to the story or some kind of real proof. And my mistake about the chopper, I don't know why I thought one came but there definately wasn't one. I was thinking of another video.
