Default Why do people do rear seat deletes???

They are always these huge monstrosities !!! Even the ones that come in two piece (one for each side) you're still adding an awkward hump to the car...

Why don't people just take off the seat bracket (on the floor on each side, just dremel off a couple of tack welds) and let the carpet (that was cut for it) lay flat and cover the hole

Or heck, get a new carpet that wasn't pre-cut...

On Mustangs and MAYBE GTO's they blend better but on our cars they always look more awkward than if you just kept the d@mn seats in there...

Am I alone in this???

I took the seats out and just left it. No sense in taking them out if you are going to put something else back in its place that probally weighs the same if not more...

Ok, let me be more specific... Not "Why do people remove their rear seats?" I want to know, "Why do people put rear seat deletes (big wood/cardboard/fiberglass attrocities) in their car to cover two little holes???"

That's what I am saying, even if it weighs less than the seats it doesn't weigh less than air

1. I wish I had a c5 or c6
2. I don't want anybody making my assend lower than it already is
3. I'm not moving my seat up to still hear them bitch
4. for me they didn't match my aftermarket front seats

You are so right about the brackets.

It looks like you put a lot of work into it but at the end of the day it's still a carpeted truck-bed tool box in the back of a Camaro... You haven't ADDED any space or anything with the addition of the delete is my point...

All PERFECT REASONS (except #1, but it's still funny) to REMOVE THE REAR SEATS but again no reason to add a REAR SEAT DELETE...

That looks like it belongs in the back of a pick-up truck.

Some people may not want the holes in there carpet to show. For me it was about cleanliness. I took the seats out and was not satisfied with the holes and indentions left behind so I made a simple form fitting box to cover it. It was not about saving weight or hiding anything, it was about annoying carpet holes. Having a nice smooth fitted piece also looks better than 2 holes. Mine looked alot close to factory than the other posted

I think if done right and the carpet matches they look much better than having back seats. It is just something some people would rather do. For most its a matter of preference rather than function.

Also, to me when I just had my back seats out I really felt like something was missing from the car. I think a rear seat delete can fill that void.

edit: the only function I can really think of is to reduce road noise. Believe it or not those rear seats DRASTICALLY reduce road noise inside the car.

To each their own, if you hate it, don't do it. I've seen some nice ones, some bad ones, and am impartial.

I removed mine to subtract the weight and so I can use it as an excuse so I dont have to haul people around (which has worked several times)

Im using the rear seat deletes because even if the carpet was sewn, it would kinda look like something is missing. The deletes kind of fill the gaps, and at just a glance it looks like the seats are still there. Also, I dont have them screwed in and take them out whenever I go racing to save weight. My next choice besides the deletes would be to leave just the foam bucket seats in and take out the back rest. My deletes didnt quite match the color of my interior and replaced it with some material for $5 in JoAnne etc., I like the mod.

I personally think it looks bad without rear seats. Even with a box built over the humps the upper portion of the hatch then looks bad. Unless you race I see no need to take out the rears... even then those seats weigh almost nothing.
