Default can i put a performance muffler on a stock cat back?

i have a turbo 408 trans am with a 4 inch downpipe. i want the car quiet but to flow well. can i put a stock 3 inch cat back on and put a good flowing muffler on? if so, what kind of muffler would flow well with my motor?

thanks

these cars don't come with a stock 3 inch system. mufflex makes a 4inch exhaust.

jesse, you have a hi-flo kit, not an STC kit, and yeah, a factory catback with one of the aftermarket "drop in" mufflers would be ok.. like a borla/flowmaster etc. the muffler design of the factory catback is not IDEAL for turbo exhaust but it will work well for the time being. I suggested the factory catback deal cause it would be the easiest, but if yuo watn to put time into welding/etc i would just run a muffler off the single pipe then and run it to a T after a muffler then dual pipes out teh back. Something like a borla XR-1 3" or 4" muffler.
