I've been trying to get ahold of Dave at Rock-On for 3 weeks. I left several messages on his phone over this time, also a message with his receptionist. I have dealt with so much transmission problems last year its ridiculous, and this tranny was supposed to fix it. yet a few months after getting it, its having repetative problems. I spoke to Dave about it back in April to resolve it, sent him all the info he requested, but he won't call back now. I want this resolved as I haven't been able to drag race my car in over 6 months because of this issue. I am a very patient person, but its wearing thin. Can anyone reach him?
I will contact him tomorrow (most likely) and tell him about your concerns.

I have been calling for over a month now, I have been waiting for 2 months for the damn thing. The last time I talked to Dave he said they shipped it full of fluid and the shipping company quarantined it. Dave told me he was going to pick it up and double check everything with it and ship it out, it has been 3 weeks since then. I have been calling since then and Amy is the one that picks up the phone, she keeps telling me she doesn't know what is going on and will call me back, she has never called me back once. The last time I called she told me they finally had one that they could ship, and she was tired of hearing my voice and hung up on me. I am still waiting on my tranny to arrive, I am getting fed up with them at this point, and if I don't have it by friday I am going to call and cancel the order and go order an FLT. Sorry to hijack the thread and writing so much, just been wanting to get this off my chest

Contact him about me as well.. He owes me a refund, was supposed to have gotten with his receptionist.. Unfortunately I need pretty desparately right now as we are moving into a house, and could really use the money for tight times during closing/moving in process, etc.
Not only that, he doesn't answer pm's.. doesn't even logon, lol. Didn't answer the phone when I called the other day either..
Peace,
Josh

Same issue here! I ordered my transmission six weeks ago. I got the same story about fluid leaking and my transmission wasn't shipped. Then I call today and they said it was back on the dyno because the line pressure was too high. For the past 2 weeks I have been talking to Amy and nothing is getting done. I am getting very fed up with them. I finally got my torque converter yesterday so there is some relief. Hopefully they come through in a decent amount of time.

you guys waiting for transmissions are probably being held up by me, they've been calling me every couple of days asking when i am going to return my core because i was holding up their business. well i sent it out last week. they should have it by now, only bad part is i had to send the new trans out with it because i broke the front pump, who knows how long i will wait to have my DD back on the road...
they've always answered the phone when i call i guess because they wanted to see if my core shipped. i'll call tomorrow to make sure shit is moving along...

this wait is ridiculous. I've been dealing with a problem for 6 months! And NO desire on Dave's part to help. I see I'm not the only one. If this doesn't get resolved soon, it will escalate. I hope he doesn't try to pull the out of warranty on me, cuz it started having problems under warranty, and they have been dragging their feet getting to me.

what exactly is the problem?
GoFast908Z
08-30-2006, 09:31 PM
what exactly is the problem?
-occassional hesitation to move in 1st gear when stopped
-2-3 shift is slow and sloppy
-constantly slips in 4th gear on the freeway.

I'm going to give him a call or two and a few more pm's before I decided to get serious with it.
I gave up on my tranny, and asked for a refund.. I put down 60% of the amount owed, and had actually called to pay the remaining 40% after waiting 2 months, and gave him my paypal card # instead of my bank card # by accident.. Luckily I didn't give him the remaining amount, because I probably would have never seen the tranny. I'm not really that upset about the tranny situation.. I sold the car, my stall I bought, and tons of stuff.. basically got tired of waiting on the tranny.. after 6 months it was enough (paid in december/january or something).
But I am upset about sending pm's to be ignored, then calling him and him admitting he got the pm's he had just been slacking.. That he'd have the accountant cut me a check. This was nearly 3 weeks ago.. no sign of a check. I told him since I changed my mind I didn't mind taking a hit on $100 for the trouble, just to please be timely in giving it back.
Well, the amount is over the state lines, so it is a felony.. If something does not get done here shortly, my faith will be lost.. and I will be forced to do something I was hoping not to do. He seems like a nice guy, and I've heard incredible things about his work. In fact, I've never had a problem whatsoever waiting for my money back up until recently.. but enough is enough. Ignored pm's, can't get in touch on phone, blatant lie about giving my cash back, and nothing yet.
Peace,
Josh

You need to not let Amy answer anymore phone calls, she makes your business out to be a joke.

I agree, having someone answer your phone that tells paying customers that she is sick of hearing their voice is unacceptable! She obviously doesn't care if she ruins your business. Many people, myself included, will steer clear of business's with such poor customer service and lack of responsibility.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad Dave Jr. I hope he gets well and makes a full recovery. I was considering a rock-on 4L60E for my new 550 rwhp setup. But after reading this thread I think I will go with the other big transmission company that starts with an R (and ends with one too :jest: ). I can't say thier name since they are not a sponsor.

wow.. one account of shitty customer service is one thing... but when someone starts a thread about an issue with a company that has gone on for 6 MONTHS!... and then customer after customer chimes in with their issues... makes u (Rock On) look pretty bad!!... I was ALSO considering a Rock on tranny (if i keep the A4) but ummmm yea.. not now...
Rock On Jr.. bit of advise from a consumer:
I understand your dad has medical issues, and i hope him the best... but for ur unhappy customers that YOU expect to be patient while you get them their product... keep the line of communication open.. none of these guys sound unreasonable.. they just wanna know wtf is up with their shit!.. dont ignore PMs and phone calls!
that is all

Hey there
Delivery for my tranny was 1.5 weeks late so that resultet in that I had to go to florida on vacation in my DD rather than be pimpin in the Z. SUCKS BIG TIME.
WOW, I am not the only one.... I got my tranny 6 weeks ago, but it was in the day before vacation, so it had to sit for 2 weeks...
I got back, got the tranny installed.... the shift is sloppy from 2 - 3 gear...
I was told this was a tuning issue... but I had my tuner on the thing. My tuner is very good at his job and does alot of really fast cars... he tryed to dial it in but no luck.... rock-on got a log file from his HP tuner program today... I am hoping this is going to be resolved soon.
I talked to that girl too..... wow did she make me angry.... my company had to pay for another keyboard and my headset is not the greatest anymore. you can just feel how she dos not give a shit at all...
I hope Dave is comming through for me FAST, i am out of patience right now.

exact same problem here (with a few extras). I sent the program to them 3 times. Still nothing. Still waiting. Still have a car that I have to worry about when driving every day.
Dave Jr, I hope you are reading this. I hope your dad is ok, I remember talking to him after he had some health scares last year.
I never wanted to post this, but I felt I had no choice. the LAST thing I want to do is make Rock-On look bad. I have been a very loyal and cooperative customer, but I need this resolved.

She really does give you that feeling! Her exact words when I said I need my money back "well I dont know what to tell ya". I blew up after that statement. I hope he gets well soon but I'm confused. His unexpected illness would explain why some people havent recieved thier order yet but how do you explain all the bad trannies that were shipped out? Is someone else building them under his name? I dunno. I hope this works out for everyone. I lurk the sponsor feedback alot these days and Ive learned that if you feel someting isnt right and the customer service is what it should be it's best to follow your gut and get out.

I called to get prices on a powerglide trans and talked to the receptionist girl. She seemed ok to me. Then again they didnt have my money yet. They never called me back to give me a price. I went ahead and got a trans from "ROSSLER" which isnt a sponsor but I dont care. They are well known and one of the best by far. Dont buy a cheap trans ,buy a good trans from one of the sponsors or someone else with a good reputation.

I hope Dave that is back and going to help us all out and getting things under control.... I am not out to bash Dave or his firm, health always comes first, but I just want it to work now, it is alot of money giving out and then having problems...
Well I am hoping that Dave can check my log file and correct the tuning issues so I can use my car. I really really don't want to send that tranny back again, that would be a huge dissapointment for me. Well I will cross my finger for you guys and also for myself....

i'd first like to point out that i am by no means an expert on transmissions. that being said, i can't begin to tell you how many times i've heard a person with a rock-on tranny say their 2-3 shift is messed up. rock-on always says it's a tuning issue, but tuning never seems to solve it  i'm just telling you what i've heard. it's probably the transmission itself and it seems to be a very common occurrance.
best wishes to dave. i hope he gets better. rock-on's always had a great reputation. i'd hate to see it permanently soiled.

you cant limit that to rock-on, i've seen every 4l60e manufactured by whoever sponsor or not on this board have 2-3 shift issues, and everybody says its a tuning issue whether it is or not. i talked to Amy today to get some shit straight about my trans and my core (which apparently is MIA) and i'm confident enough my trans will be back. as long as i get a damn 4l60e in the car that aint broke i'll be happy.
half the sponsors on this board go through the same issue if it isnt rock-on its fuddle, if its not fuddle its BYUNSPEED, if not them its TEA, if not them then its LG motorsports (yes even LG).
bottom line is shit happens, bitch about it, live through it...

i'm confused. i didn't realize i was "bagging" on anyone. actually i am a serious potential buyer for the future. i intend to keep my car for a very long time and mod it after college when i have the funds. that will require a stronger transmission.
i like the way half a dozen people have ragged on rock-on and said they'd never buy a tranny from them now, but i point out a commonality and i get ripped on when it was by no means even ragging on rock-on's part. why aren't you yelling at the people actually ragging on rock-on?

I'm not saying you can't post. But telling what you've "heard" is not going to contribute anything helpful to this thread. If you want to talk about stuff you've heard about them, start a thread about it. This thread is for resolving current customer issues with Rock-On.
btw, 3 people said they wouldn't buy, and 1 said probably not. The common problem was already pointed out, and didn't need to be restated. The people here that are upset with Rock-On are upset because of their circumstances (read their posts). I have no reason to yell at them.
Look, bottom line. This thread has the capacity to get out of hand, and bashing to occur. I do NOT want that to happen. The only way to prevent that is keeping things to the facts, and business-like. If this turns into a bashing thread it will reflect on ME! And I dont' want anything interfering with getting my issues resolved.
Sorry if I was overly harsh and jumped on you.

lucky you guys that got it for 1800. I got mine when it was still 2300.
and the 1st Rock-on i had, had the same leaking fluid shipping issue. added 4 weeks to delivery over what was stated.
spy2520

i think that fluid thing is true though, because they kept telling me to make sure no fluid is comingo ut of the trans when i sent it back or the shipping company would have held it.

i'm not saying dont bitch about it, i'm just seeing certain people hold this agianst rock-on like they are the only ones who ever had a problem. what i meant was that alot of sponsors on here go through the same issue whether it be out of pure ignorance or problems out of their control, and since history has repeated time and time again on this board, [not just] you will bitch, problems will either get fixed or not, and we'll all live happily ever after as usual...
the only real problem i have is that this shit gets old and sponsors need to be more prepared to fill alot of orders when they get to this site, or to inform the customer of the huge waiting list that actually exists and not just say it'll take a month...

Hrm... I know everyone here hates the guys jumping on the "bandwagon" but time to share my story as well, maybe I can save someone.
So.. (again this has been so fucking long I don't remember exact dates without pulling up old bills.) I hear great things about rock on, and decide to use them. This was roughly september when I called and ordered the transmission, paid in full. I made sure to make it clear that I am military, and deploying to Iraq in december and needed the car running so I could move it by december 18th to storage. Dave personally said "not a problem AT ALL." Granted, Dave was always very courteous on the phone. Well.. I goto CAX November 10th (Anyone in the Marines is familiar with this, a month-long training operation in the desert of 29 Palms). I was gone until Dec 10th. I get back and a local shop had my car and was receiving the tranmission from Dave. It took almost 2 months to get the transmission in the first place. I *FINALLY* get it (I got my fuddle converter in about 1.5 weeks.) and they put it in that night, stayed late and I helped them. The car starts, we go to drive it. Doesn't work. The next day take it to a local So-Cal performance tranny shop (Toy Shop in Pomona) who takes it apart and said the transmission was built like crap and completely garbage. Half the parts he said we're junk. (Whether before or after being put on the car I don't know). I contact Dave about it, and he seems to want to help. Knowing by now his crappy ass return times I am stuck. So I fork out and get a very very nice deal for a completely new transmission from Toy Shop, which of course, works great on the first try, and lasts 2,200 mile drive non-stop to illinois, with some 160mph bursts (including the one I got cited for, haha). I contact Dave about the transmission, but I run out of time seeing I have to deploy and I won't have phone/internet. So I left it up to my family. They were willing to help, and sent the transmission back to Dave. I had tried to back-charge the credit card because I paid 2,000$ for fucking junk and saw no way of getting it fixed. I couldn't do that, because of his "warranty policy"--So BUYER BEWARE OF THAT. Although I cancelled that credit card too (Citi bank) because for a huge ass limit, they sure don't back their customers up. So he has the transmission the WHOLE 8 months I am in Iraq. With family contacting him multiple times a week. He then REFUSES to fix it because "it is missing some parts." Well, no shit asshole the transmission was probably missing them when I got it. It was fucking garbage. I figured a warranty should cover the parts anyways. I guess I was wrong. Well they finally just ask for the shitty "core" transmission back so we atleast have SOMETHING. That again, took forever. Only when presented with the threat of going to court over the ordeal because my family had detailed logs of every contact attempt. The bitch that answers their phone needs to get slapped with some manners too. I guess once you give your money to them you don't rate shit.(not even a working transmission). Finally, we get the core back about 2 weeks before I get back to the states (at our cost, of course, another 200$ freight charge. The freighter also informs us that he rejected the first way they "packed it" because it was just thrown on a crate. He made them strap it down properly). Now I will have to get it built by a local shop in illinois that has built my tranny and it works GREAT. So i can sell it and HOPEFULLY dent the fucking bills I made from this.
Maybe Rock On used to be good, but, as far as I can see there is NO REASON to use them for anyone. It is a headache, nobody gets their shit on time, and I am still steamed over this whole situation. Not something I want to come back to. Dave might be a nice guy, whatever, but I didn't pay him 2000$ to be nice to me on the phone I got other numbers for that.
I would never recommend them to anyone, and have had multiple good transmission builders tell me after looking into the one I got from him that it was complete garbage.
-Eric (The Marine at pendleton you ripped off about a year ago but I'm not going away. I just got started.)

Does everyone having "2-3 shift issues" with Rock-On transmissions have the vacuum modulator conversion?
I thought Dave knew what he was doing...Atleast he talks about it pretty good. He's constantly interjecting his opinions on CZ.com, where he's NOT a supporting vendor, and I am.
Hmmmm.... If I build them "wrong" and he builds them "right", how come he has more problems?

+1 interesting how frank and my customers never have these problems. When you put Vacuum Modulators on these units your just begging for problems. Vacuum modulator =3/4 clutches go bye bye.
I bet they had load release springs too Bwahaha!!!!

I am moving this thread to the Sponsor Feedback section because it has no technical information. I will also let the site Admin know what is going on here.

I know at least 1 very good transmission builder that uses vacuum modulators with great success. I think casting blame on vacuum modulators in general is a bit excessive.

Dave left a message at my house yesterday, sounded like he was going to fix things. So I'll call him back after the holiday weekend. But this is good news.

I got ahold of Dave today, and he thinks it may be a solenoid issue. So i'm gonna change that next week if possible, and we'll go from there.

UPDATE:
Replaced the solenoids in the tranny *per Dave's suggestion* and it did not fix the problem. This cost ME $264.80 I want to be reembersed for it. I will start calling (i say calling cuz i know they don't like answering the phones) tomorrow. My patience will run out on friday Oct. 27th. I hope Rock-On is reading this.
Dave Sr., I hope you are reading this. You told me you were sorry for "dropping me in the mud" for a while and promised to see this resolved. I'm here to collect on that.

Please post if you guys have gotten any resolution. Their customer service seems pretty erratic right now.

i was calling all day yesterday. Dave's phone is not accepting incoming calls. The business line is a busy tone. Same thing today. I've tried about 15 times throughout yesterday.
