(Note: This GP has ended but see our posts in this thread from 9/19 for details on how to get a great deal!!!).

Is your rearend about to take it's last trip down the track? If so, we can help you with a Strange 12 bolt or one of the new Dana S60 rears! We're running a group purchase that covers both of these.

12 Bolt -

http://www.tbyrnemotorsports.com/ls1/strange12boltinfo.jpg

Gear ratios available are 3.42, 3.73, 3.90 and 4.10. The 3.90s will be noisy so Strange doesn't promote this one. This rearend now comes standard with the Super Strength posi. Each one is shipped ready to be installed. You will just need to swap the brakes from your current rear. Shipping is freight collect for this product so you will need to take care of that with the driver when he delivers.

GP prices -

PRG210-PRGOP8 Fully assembled and dyno tested rearend (less brakes). gmbbpcore Options: If you can't have any vehicle downtime we can charge you $229.99 for a set of backing plates and send them to Strange to be build into your rear. After your 12 bolt is installed you'd send your stock backing plates to us and we'd credit you $175.00. This option is only available if your car does not have traction control or the ABS at the axles. The backing plates are only required for 1998+ cars.. $229.99

Dana S60 -

http://www.tbyrnemotorsports.com/ls1/danas60.jpg

Dana S60 features -
35 spline axles
HD Posi
Chrome Cover
3 or 4 channel ABS

You will need to send your brake backing plates in just before the rear is built so they can be built into the rear. We can sell a new set to you separate. The stock driveshaft will need to be shortened by 1.625".

The following gear ratios are available - 3.54, 3.73, 4.10, 4.30, 4.56, 4.88, 5.87.

The weight difference between Dana 60 and 12 bolt is 20-25 lbs, the Dana is heavier. Dana rear is fully assembled with posi weights around 215 lbs and 12 bolt is around 189 lbs (weight with brakes). The weight difference between 12 bolt and 9" is about 12-15 lbs the 12 bolt being lighter.

Ring gear sizes:
12 bolts ring gear only 8.875 OD
9 ring gear is is 9" OD
Dana has ring gear of 9.75 OD which is alot stronger than 12 bolt & 9".
The standard Dana gear (not Pro) can withstand close to 1200 RWHP.

The True-Track is posi is standard along with Power-Lock. These are good for about 600rwhp. The Dana's posi is alot stronger than a 12 bolt and the 9". This is because the Dana Posi's are 35 spline, 12 bolt is 33 spline and the 9" is a 33 spline.

I have a few questions
1) Will my UMI adjustable torque arm work with the 12 bolt and the s60?
2) The same thing for my UMI panhard bar?
3)Are both a direct bolt in or do I have to make them fit and will my stock driveshaft (STEEL) work with these?
4) How much will shipping cost to 33033?
5)How long does it take from order to delivery?

I am VERY interested in purchasing one of these! Thank you.

tbyrne
09-06-2006, 09:06 AM
The UMI parts should work with these. We haven't fit them with either of these rears to say for sure but the stock/aftermarket suspension components will usually bolt up. The stock driveshaft will need to be shortened by 1.625 to use it with the S60.

The rears are shipped freight collect so you would take care of that with the trucking company when they deliver. Shipping is usually in the $125. - $250. range. Delievery time will depend on how Strange is doing with production when everything is ordered. They should take at least 1-2 weeks to ship.

We now have 3 orders in.

It's a three ring circus . Lions on one side, elephants in the center and those crazy monkeys riding motorcycles on the other side.

Did you ask someone about a VaraRam group purchase this morning? Someone here asked me about that around 11 or so east coast time. I told her no. She let the person on the phone know about that. He told her that the GP was posted on September 1st. That is the same day this GP was posted. She confirmed with him that there is no Vararam GP

No I asked about the strange rearend group purchase and she said no there was no group purchase and I repeated to her that on LS1 TECH.COM there is a thread dated 9-1-06 stating a group purchase on ALL strange rearends and she said no that is an old thread and the conversation ended! I have called your bussiness 3 times since that conversation trying to ask a few more questions BEFORE ordering a rear, but no one will return my calls and yes I have left my name and number TWICE! Now thats what I call customer service!! Have a nice day !!!

I don't know... I heard what she was saying on the phone and I'm the one that told her that it was probably an old thread so I know which call it was. I was covering the call backs today and there were no calls that weren't returned as of 4:30. Unless for some reason your calls didn't make it onto the list but they are usually done right away.

Tbyrne, I have the $2049.00 for the S60 rear right know. My question is, can I order the rear right now (since there is a 2-3 week lead time) and have it in the que and then in a couple of weeks send in the cash for the backing plates and the shorter driveshaft? Also, do you guys sell a good torque arm that would work with my custom exhaust pictured below?

That won't be a problem. It looks like there is plenty of room for the stock or an aftermarket torque arm. We carry the Random Technology and BMR torque arms. Those should fit under there.

Mine was just under $2600.00 ( I want to say like $2598) w/ the backing plates and the middle priced drive shaft. It has the Tru trac w/ a 4.10 and the stock 2.5 studs on the axles. That should (read:better) be everything that I need in order to be able to bolt it in right out of the box. The freight is not included in that price. Carol and Holley were very helpfull and called me back several times to confirm some tech questions and stud options that I threw at them. If I get it within the 4 week delivery promised and it runs quiet, it will have been a completely pleasant buying experience.

The driveshafts listed on the original post are all shorter than stock to work with the bigger than stock S60 rear. My best guess is that the more it costs, the stronger it is.

The driveshafts listed on the original post are all shorter than stock to work with the bigger than stock S60 rear. My best guess is that the more it costs, the stronger it is.That's what they said. The seamless one is straight pipe, with not seam (two pipes welded together). With no seam to be a possible weak point, the seamless is stronger.

Since I went S60 because it's the strongest... I decided to go seamless Driveshaft, cause it's the strongest.

Go big or go home, ya know.

There isn't to many more details for those shafts listed on the Strange site - http://www.strangeengineering.net/catalog/pdf/128.pdf#search='Strange%20Engineering%20driveshaft s'

Well, I found out the hard way that the shaft does not include the yoke. In order to reuse the stock w/ the 1 1/8 diameter hole, you will need Precision #447 adapter U-joint.

Black FormulaLs1

so let me get this right:
The SD60 is the strongerst rear out there.
The SD60 only holds up to a 3:56 gear?
The SD60 requires a different yoke
and a different driveshaft?

Strongest due to the size of the ring gear but also heaviest.
3:56 or higher I believe
The pinion requires a 1350 U-joint. Therefore the weld-in yoke on the back of the drive shaft will either have to also accept the 1350 U-joint or you would need an adapter u-joint (not recommended). The slip yoke on the other end of the driveshaft must match the splines on the tranny output shaft. Drive shaft must be shortened or replaced with a shorter one.

Hope that clarifies for ya.

tbyrne

These are offered with up to a 4.10 gear. The GP ended awhile ago but we're currently offering $200.00 off the regular price of the rear. They are shipped freight collect so we don't receive shipping quotes for them. Last one that came to MA cost about $225. to ship.

You'll have to give us a call or e-mail tbyrne@tbyrne.com to receive a quote. The rears are shipped freight collect so we won't have shipping numbers for them. The trucking company would call a few days before delivery to set that up and provide the shipping amount.

Also, we are able to offer a slightly greater discount for orders that are placed by Friday, October 19th. These are probably the lowest price that we've had for these in years!

I'm going to leave this thread up for about a day then either delete it or have it locked so I can start a fresh one.
