Default piston to valve clearence with AFR 225 and 248-250 cam on stock shortblock?

I have some 225s and a 248-250 .613 lift cam that I'm wondering if I can use on a stock shortblock without worrying about piston to valve clearence if I don't fly-cut the pistons. Thanks, Brian

Not happening in my oponion.
Even if it did you wouldn't have a very good setup IMO. Your in need of some compression with that cam.

I believe you would have to flycut.

2.08 valve+ 248 duration = flycut at least .080"

would that hinder the amount of nitrous I can run, or would I have other problems(like factory rod bolts breaking) before the fly-cutting started to be a problem?

You should replace your rod bolts with Katech bolts. Flycutting would not be an issue with nitrous, but i would stay in the 150 shot with a cam that size.

It is considered too much when you don't know how much is too much.

How much thought have you put into your setup? You have very good individual components, but the key to making superior power is executing the proper combination. Large valves, big duration, low static compression, no fly-cut pistons sounds like a recipe for disappointment.

If you're willing to flycut, then your possibilities open up. If not, then you most certainly will need to reconsider your cam choice. It's entirely too big.

i believe thats a limiting factor in my car right now, i have a big cam so i didnt touch my heads, if i do some fly cutting and deck the heads and bump up the cr it should really rip

I have the parts from a 402 so I wanted to use them for now (I would never have purchased a cam that large for a 346!). With those heads, a fast 90/90, kooks 1-7/8th headers, and not flycutting the pistons what would be a good nitrous cam for a 250 shot direct port on a 346?

Are the rod bolts really worth it if I don't spin the motor too high, but spray it with a 250 shot and some race gas?

I'm flycutting with Dart 225's (2.05/1.60) and a 228/230 588/591 on 110+1. At best I only had .042 clearance. Cut them about .050.

That gives me an idea, was that the intake that was .042 or the exhaust?
