Default Help!! Just Did LS6 Heads/Intake, Car backfires and has very slow throttle response..

Hey so like the topic says, we did an ls6 head and intake swap and its not right..... The driver side banks is a lot cooler than the passenger, and it almost seems like it's running lean, also backfiring and has a rough idle. Is this something a tune would normally do? Sounds like it's a plug/wire/coil issue not firing and causing it to run lean....

if stuff is not firing...its not lean ebcasue nothing is firing. Also, cold=not firing. The leaner an engine goes..the hotter it gets too. Who did the swap? sounds liek something get messed up. was the cam taken out? or set off of normal timing?

1.check spark plugs for hairline cracks, this disturbs how they fire.

2.Check for the spark plug boots to be all the way on,

3.check the spark plug gap..

4. check coil back connections.

Maybe someone tried starting his car while he was holding one of the wires and he had a stroke.

This is off of a 2000 TA but should still be the same layout
Check out this lay out to yours.
im doing a coil pack relocation right now putting them on the cowl (thunder kit) and i need to make i put the right coil to the corresponding plug and not cross the wires....and this is exactly what i need i hope it works when i get off work tomorrow ill check it out. my coil packs have a yellow tag that say #1 of 8 on 1 coil pack on each side...whats the significance? at first i got excited and figured this must be cylinder 1 in the firing order but then i checked the passenger side and it had the same yellow #1 of 8 tag on one of the coil pack wires.

That is, ummm, strange there...

Isn't the firing order 1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3? That may be useful info.

Also sounds like it may have a small vacuum leak. My car did this after swapping intakes and it was a loose intake bolt. Just something pretty simple to rule out.

Good luck.
