Default 98 Z28 with 02' engine Help

I am going tring to get my parted 98 Z28 Turbo project back to running condition with a stock 2002 drivetrain.

I bought an 02'engine and tranny combo complete to put back in my 98 Z28. I was planning to repin my engine wiring harness so I could use te 02 PCM's capability to have RTT with HPTuners. I have since changed my mind and am going to use the factory 98PCM harness. I dont want to mess with all the rewiring right now.

My question:

-What changes are needed to run this 02 engine with the 98 harness sensor wise?
-What sensors have to be swapped out to work with the 98?

I want to cover my bases before I dive into putting this car back together. The fewer suprises along the way the better.

Thanks for any help. It is appreciated.

I thought that you for sure needed at least an 00+ PCM if not an actual 02 PCM. I could be wrong though... just going on selective memory here.

I am going to use my 98 PCM and harness. I think I have to change out a couple of the 02 engines sensors to work with the 98 harness. I think the knock sensrs are different, and the temp sending unit may be different. I just want to be sure.

Knock sensors are certainly different. And I'd wire up separate oil pressure and water temp gauges anyway.

why wire up a separate temp and oil pressure guage? why not just change the sensor to work with the 98 harness?

Because either way they aren't as accurate as aftermarket gauges. You don't have to, you can obviously do whatever you want. I just don't see why you wouldn't since you're already gonna be in there.

I am on a budget and wanting to keep this as much of a plug and play deal as I can. The factory gauges will be okay for the motor for now. It is gonna stay stock for a while.

There was a thread on efilive.com about a few guys rewiring the 98 and 99+ harnesses even using them on LT1's etc. Take a look there http://forum.efilive.com
