i swaped my TB for a ported stocker. very noticable difference, but the car idols a bit choppy and high at times. anything i should check that i could have screwed up on? thanks for any help in advance

Vacum leak check everything like hoses on TB and make sure all your bolts are tight!

the only vacume hose i can see comes out the back of the throttle body. should the hose come over that "bump" in the line, or should it stop just before?

make sure the hole in the blade wasnt drilled larger...if you bought it used from someone

could be the computer trying to get used to the new air coming in?? Mine does the same thing but im convinced that my tb is sticking open.

hold the TB up to the light and see if you see any light coming from around the butterfly. Could be a leak there. If not, then take it off and put it back on the intake manifold to make sure it seals up right.


Also, check the 2 sensors on the side to make sure they are on all the way?

ya i noticed the same thing im experiencing now when i did my FIPK, but it went away in a matter of a few minutes. its been 2 days now and its still running the same way. i dont think its sticking open, but ill check it when i get home today

i checked it earlier and it looked like a tight seal. good info though, ill check it as well when i get back home.

Unplug your IAC and TPS and turn the key on but dont start, wait a couple of seconds and cut the key off, plug them back up and turn the key back on, wait a couple of seconds and then start the engine. This will put everything into a learn condition(the computer will think you cahnged sensors out) and after a few minutes it will relearn. Dont ever say I never done anything for anyone

ok so i did this and now it starts and idols right around 1000rpm for about 5 seconds, then it starts to get choppy and go up and down from 1100 to 1250 or so. this is really annoying. any other thoughts?

There has got to be a leak somewhere, that's the only thing I could think of. Sorry.

The easyest way so you know it a vacum leak is get you some starter fluid and spray around averything and if the RPM's come up then you know you gave a vacum leak!

Hmm, I don't know if I would be spraying some flamable stuff around my HOT engine. It would work though.

I know when I took my TB off for something...I put it back on and it idled high. Like 1100 rpms. I turned it off and started it up 5 minutes later and it was fine.

If you have a friend that smokes it is easy. get a small tube, crack the TB and slide the hose thru it. Now tape up the inlet of the TB so no smoke gets out the front. Then have your smoker friend blow smoke thru the tube, and you should see smoke come out wherever there is a vacuum leak (assuming there is one).

When you have the car idling did you disconnect the intake and look at the throttle body make sure that the cable isnt holding the blade open just a tad may need to adjust your throttle body cable. Just trying to think of everything I checked when mine was doin the same thing, now its doin fine.
